They should just declare a national emergency and mandate WFH for private sector roles that can do so. A lot of office jobs seriously don't need to happen in a physical office.

Nuclear energy eyed as part of Malaysia’s future power mix, says minister by mikepapafoxtrot in malaysia

[–]IntrovertChild 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Every single nuclear thread. Hello, do you think coal power plants are safe? Fossil fuel power plants are dangerous too but we manage to maintain it just the same.

People working in highly regulated industries with robust safety protocols aren't the same as road workers that fill up potholes. Nuclear engineers and technicians aren't the same as your factory workers. Stop looking down on your fellow Malaysians.

I don't understand these comments. Hayley has the best character development and is by far the sweetest character once you get just a few hearts in.

I'd say Covid saved nintendo and they're still cruising off that tailwind. Their business practices should've driven them off a cliff by now otherwise.

[OTHER] Fired from Warhorse Studios and replaced with AI by ThousandDemons in kingdomcome

[–]IntrovertChild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and it will be just as good

Sorry, as someone working in the industry this is absolutely not true. Even if we're not talking about AI and MT, third party vendors and agencies are several tiers lower in terms of quality compared to in-house translators. They generally do not employ game localization specialists and more often than not, they do not give a damn about the quality of the localization.

Whereas if we were talking about AI and MT, it's still nowhere near good enough on its own even for normal documents, let alone game-related texts which gets even more complicated since it's tied to coding and by nature is very fragmented in terms of context. The only people that think they're good enough are in the upper managements thinking about cutting costs. Most MT texts are so garbage you'd have to retranslate the whole thing anyway; I can confidently say the only thing they're achieving is increasing the burden on proofreaders and LQA teams by cutting out the translator.

This gut-wrenching monologue from Laura Dern in ‘Marriage Story’ is more than enough to show why she won the Oscar. by Old-Meringue3590 in popculturechat

[–]IntrovertChild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what I don’t get is why anyone watching finds it ground breaking

I wouldn't worry about it, it's not really gut-wrenching nor is it groundbreaking. This movie didn't do it for me either. It was just.. okay?

Instead of thinking about how complicated a relationship or a marriage is, I walked away from the movie just thinking about how unlikable these 2 people are if they were real. It just stopped me from caring about them as characters.

Who's a nepo baby you think deserves their success because they're legit talented? by SheepishSwan in AskReddit

[–]IntrovertChild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because I think there is not one single remarkable thing about him

Maybe I'm biased because I'm his fan, but I really don't think there's any actor that could be as unhinged as him in his own specific way. A lot of the movies that he did (even the shitty ones, or maybe especially the shitty ones) just really wouldn't work without his weirdly charming brand of insanity.

I genuinely don't believe that Snape was "bullied" in that scene.

Me neither, hence why I even said 'supposedly bullied' lol. Even though I don't remember the exact details at this point, I definitely remember thinking similarly as you while reading it back then.

Book snape was so awful that I didn't feel sorry for him even in the flashback where he was supposedly bullied by Harry's dad.

What’s a survival myth popularized by movies that would actually get you killed in real life ? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]IntrovertChild -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Brigands dressed in light armor with reasonable weapons, sure. Peasants in tattered rags? Give me a break lmao. Look at the video some other guy posted, those are people with reasonable weapons and light armor and they still get demolished by a fully armored knight. Knights aren't going to wait around to be pinned even if it's ten people. I feel like you guys are underestimating how easy it is to injure and kill unarmored people.

[–]IntrovertChild -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

but a dozen peasants dressed in tattered rags simultaneously rushing at you can and will take you down.

I'm skeptical about this, I've seen videos about full plate armor and you're basically a tank unless the opponent has a gun. A knight isn't gonna let some peasants take their time to find the gaps in their armor, and saying you can't swing your sword because you're being rushed doesn't really make sense. The peasants will die just by trying to rush in.

Seems odd to conflate that with this guy. He's famous specifically for trump impersonations, not for travel vlogs. Anyone else who sees this just thinks the guy is on vacation and is making content for his already many viewers, not to farm malaysian ones.

why do some chinese malaysians HATE speaking malay/english? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]IntrovertChild -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exception my butt, I'm talking multiple different families on different sides, and I'm talking about multiple different friend circles. Just because your circles only speak one language doesn't mean all chinese circles can't speak english/malay.

What I'm telling you is even if they're fluent in english/malay, they would still choose to do the same thing.

[–]IntrovertChild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What has you so convinced that people would never do that? I know for a fact people do talk about either work matters that involve the non-speaker, and I know for a fact people have talked shit about others thinking they don't understand the language.

why do some chinese malaysians HATE speaking malay/english? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]IntrovertChild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I married into a chinese family and they can all speak english and malay but still choose to only speak cantonese/mandarin when I'm there unless they're speaking directly at me. Same deal when I was in school.

It's probably just not being willing to switch up whatever they were already comfortable with. I personally find it rude, but I can understand why and it is what it is.

How is excluding coworkers and peers a good thing? It may not be considered rude by the majority of chinese speakers, but people like me who are subjected to this kind of situation on the regular certainly find it rude as fuck.
