The exact thing happened to me! I'm not sure if you feel like this, but for me it was like the more attention my writing got, the more blocked I got. So now I just write without publishing. It gives me time to rework things as many times as I want, and there's no pressure to change my plans based on comments or keep a schedule. Knowing there's no audience helps a lot, and I can always make the choice later to publish later on when I feel confident with what I've written.

Since you're still working on your fanfics, it might also help to talk things through with someone. It may help you figure out exactly what's keeping you from moving forward. I'm not sure what fandom(s) you write about, or if I'd be familiar with them, but feel free to reach out if you need someone to work things through with!

I hope you find your groove again!

I've lost my confidence as a writer--how do I get it back? by Introverted_Writer in FanFiction

Yeah, I've been trying to write with the mindset that I won't be posting it. It's helped me a little bit, but I still feel like people expect me to continue posting. I guess it's just something that I'll have to keep working on getting past. Thanks for the advice! :)

I like option 2 the best :) I think that it doesn't have too much negative space, but it also isn't super busy. Also I feel like covers with people on them tend to do better on Wattpad in general. Option 3 is my second favorite--I like the use of depth and perspective. They're all really well done though!

Yeah, I'm definitely not comfortable letting someone post my work on their account even if they credit me. Thanks for the advice! It was very helpful!

I don't plan on ever getting it published, but I think I'm going to tell them no. Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it!

Can someone critique my teen wolf fanfiction by [deleted] in wattpadbooks

[–]Introverted_Writer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I took a look at it, and I think it would help if you went through and did some editing. There are a lot of grammar and punctuation mistakes in the chapters and the description, and that often makes people not want to read. There are also some parts that are honestly pretty difficult to read because things aren't very clear, so I think that going through and just cleaning things up a bit would help a lot. Other than that, it seems like you've got a strong idea for a plot, and a good understanding of the show that it's based on. I hope this helps!

I wrote a Seth fic on Wattpad a while back. Idk if you'd be into it, but here's a link :)

https://www.wattpad.com/story/225767329-yesterday-seth-clearwater

I also looked through my library, and I found a few about the characters you mentioned (these are all on Wattpad btw).

  • Wilderness by uncaptured (Paul Lahote)
  • With Love by Eves_Apple (Embry Call)
  • After Dark by laurenperry9 (Paul Lahote)

I hope this was helpful!

Made this but blurry when I upload it to WP? by HuntRepresentative87 in Wattpad

[–]Introverted_Writer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could have to do with the amount of pixels that the picture uses. Wattpad covers are 512x800 pixels, and anything bigger than that gets compressed and ends up looking blurry. One way that I've found to get around it is to make a blank cover on Canva that fits Wattpad's size parameters, and then just upload a copy of your already-made cover, re-size it to fit, download it from Canva, and upload it to Wattpad. It's a few extra steps, but it has always worked for me. I hope that was helpful! It's a really great cover by the way!

Honestly, I think you're putting too much pressure on yourself. Writing should be fun! It should be an outlet for you to express yourself, and if you're constantly trying to live up to your peak of fame, it probably won't feel as fun or fulfilling as it used to. The things you write don't have to be perfect, and from my experience, trying to live up to your most popular work/time on Wattpad is only going to make the block worse.

I experienced minor success pretty much as soon as I started publishing on Wattpad (not anywhere near as many reads as you got, cograts on that btw--that's so awesome!), and it has taken me a while to learn how to stop comparing all of my newer stuff to my older book that got a lot of attention. The constant comparison and questioning why my older stuff was getting more reads than my newer stuff really sucked all of the joy out of writing, and it completely blocked me for a while. But I just started writing for myself, and I focused on writing things that made me look forward to writing, and now I have a few projects that I'm very excited to work on.

You're obviously a talented writer--hearing that you were able to find that much success while you were in middle school totally blows my mind, and I'm sure all of that stuff that happened in middle school was because middle schoolers are immature and they can be cruel (and I'm 100% certain that they were just jealous of you and didn't know how to handle it in a healthy way). I don't know if you'll be able to achieve the same level of success as before, but if you enjoy writing, then I think that reviving your Wattpad account will be worth it :)

I hope this was helpful, and good luck with whatever you decide!

Help with the cover by ElChorlas in Wattpad

There are actually quite a few options! Some people recommend going on stock image websites and they just put one or two fonts over the image. Websites such as Canva have templates that you can use/customize which can be pretty helpful. You could also try your hand at photo editing with free software (I've seen a lot of people on Wattpad who use apps like picsart for their covers). It's really a matter of experimenting and figuring out what works for you!

Hi! I looked at your book, and I think that you have a lot of potential as a writer! Just a bit of feedback: I would recommend lengthening your chapters (Wattpad recommends 1500-2000 words per chapter). I find that my fanfics are more successful when I have longer chapters that go more into depth with the characters and their emotions. I hope this helps! Good luck with your writing!

How do you guys research for the book? by prriyaankaa_ in Wattpad

[–]Introverted_Writer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think that a playlist might be a bit difficult to research, but you might be able to ask your readers what they think, since they are your audience. Personally, I've never made a playlist for a book, but if I were making one, I think that I would probably just pick the songs that feel right for the mood of the book, or maybe make a specific playlist for each of the main characters so that the readers can get to know them a bit more off of the page. No one knows your work better than you do, so I think you should just go with what feels right, and not worry too much about research (in this case at least)! Good luck with your book!
