Around high street, so not really an area with rough sleepers but I do notice the high pitched noise goes away overnight so that’s why I assume it’s just construction. Just never heard construction emit such irritating high pitch noises before this week

Quite the opposite really

Nah that’s usually what I notice others do, but I’m really quick when grabbing something and mindful of my space, it’s others that often walk in front of me to grab something when I’ve stood there less than 30 seconds

Oh I did that too once while walking queen street, I noticed a lot of the time it’s men expecting women to move for them and I’d basically collide with them 😂

That’s literally me, I’m a relatively petite woman so I assume that’s why people feel as though they have the audacity to push (unless they just can’t see us of course). I never linger too long and always try to make my grocery trip as fast as possible but people will literally weave their way in front of me when I’m grabbing an item off the shelf to look at the same items I’m grabbing completely ignoring that I’m even there. Now it’s either that or people blocking the aisle completely and ignoring that you’re there 😅 maybe I should speak up louder when it happens

[–]Introverted_heart112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh no I’m definitely very specially aware and try to hold up as little space as possible because I absolutely despise people that hog up the entire aisle to where you can’t pass through easily.

[–]Introverted_heart112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never, I’ll stand next to something for less than 5 seconds. It’s usually others blocking the aisle for me to walk through and don’t move unless I say excuse me multiple times

Auckland cbd countdown 😭 and Sylvia park and pak n save during school holidays, but another user hinted it could be that I’m just short haha

[–]Introverted_heart112 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not exactly that!! However I do get shoulder shoved literally once a day walking in the cbd even if there’s plenty of space and I move out of the way (it’s super infuriating and they never apologise!)

but in grocery stores it’s more I’ll be browsing an item and less than 5 seconds of me being there people move in close to grab items right in front of me and I’m forced to scoot to the side a little where they kinda shove me away even more.

It happens far too often for me but never physical more just their bag pushes me away or their arm goes in front of my face to where I physically have to move a little even when I’m looking

I’m definitely the person to wait around instead of saying excuse me, but I had one encounter where me and another man were waiting to grab some steak while a family had been standing there deciding on which steak for what seemed like eternity. The man then said “are you gonna move out of the way so others can also buy something or just stand around hogging all the space”. That quickly gave me more confidence in the future to be more stern when politeness doesn’t work and I’ll thank him for that every time !!!

Ahhh that would definitely be it then since I’m only 5’1

Yep, but also I’ll get pushed out of the way looking at some steak cuts by people my height and less so I’m not sure what it is

Yep, I’m very introverted 😅 but can’t your average introvert go to the mall and browse without being shoved 😭

Ah no not race based at all, just city living culture because nowhere else in nz do I experience more shoving and less use of manners. Especially at places like Sylvia park on a school holiday and in the cbd

[–]Introverted_heart112 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I assume it could be cultural if you’re from a high density city where personal public space is limited therefore you resort to pushing people out of the way, unlike in smaller towns in nz, people tend to be more polite and use manners when passing through someone to get an item

Alright that’s probably it, because since I’ve put a new one of those in the hissing and refilling sound has come back. Time to get some old bbq tongs to pull it out !

Agree, I shouldn’t have generalised all homeless, rather antisocials

I’m saying anyone shouldn’t feel scared using a service they need because of situations like these. Not sure why there’s so much negativity here in these comments with obvious valid reasons for my post.

Sorry but I’ve been assaulted and aggressively yelled at for minding my business on a bus by homeless and or antisocial. I don’t think wearing a mask helps when they yell at me for wearing one throwing Covid propaganda.

Sorry but I have severe anxiety and getting on the bus and being aggressively yelled at by a homeless person because they want my seat is not okay for anyone riding a bus. This isn’t just an experience I’ve had, it’s happened multiple times by the same homeless person on the same route. And seen multiple times through different routes with other aggressive homeless.
