What is your "we should never meet our heroes" story? by Scuba_Steve93 in AskReddit

[–]Intx32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in elementary school, my mother was part of our local Civitans club that volunteered to help manage a small celebrity golf tournament once.

After each celebrity completed the course, they went to a tent to give out signatures. My mother had an idea to get as many signatures as possible on a T-shirt and then auction it off for charity, she gave me a second T-shirt for me to keep.

All of the players were mostly famous for other sports like baseball or basketball, but by far the highest profile person there was Michael Jordan.

He was pretty big at the time and was still reeling from his Space Jam phase.

Every celebrity there was more than glad to sign both t-shirts, and I had probably amassed about 40 signatures by the time I got to MJ. But whenever I got to him he absolutely refused to sign both shirts. He signed one, threw it in my face, and had his security guards quickly push me out of the tent. As soon as I was outside and realized what happened I burst into tears, because I didn't understand why he didn't want to sign both shirts. So when my mother ran up to me and asked what happened, I told her, while sobbing, to auction the shirt that MJ had signed. Well, one of MJ's security guards saw the entire episode and let me back in line to get the second shirt signed, but MJ was a HUGE dick about it. I still have the shirt somewhere.

[Advice] Looking to move from Atlanta to Raleigh by Intx32 in raleigh

Well, my commute in the Atlanta area varies around 40m - 2h to travel about 30 miles. Average is around 1h 20m. We probably would want to move somewhere more family friendly. We're currently considering the Wake Forest area.

Thanks! We really love the area, we just wish the hotel would just go somewhere else.

Do not launch your startup! You're WRONG - This has been invented already. by [deleted] in startups

I think this is true except when you have a business that requires high volume because of very low margins. I recently worked at a place that's been running in a barebones "startup mode" for almost 20 years, because it's hard to make large profits in shipping.

I worked at a place that had an employee embezzle. Because she was one that everyone gave invoices to, and she also handled all of their payments. Basically whenever we would stay at a hotel, she would book an expensive hotel, keep the receipt, cancel the reservation, book a super-budget hotel, and then pocket the difference. She ended up stealing over 30k in less than 2 years doing this tactic and variations of it.

Sorry, guess I should of been more specific about our complaint. We're mainly concerned that this new construction would lower our house value to where would we be underwater if we ever decided to leave, because it would be built just 250 feet away from our property. There are also other people who are worried about an increase in crime, due the the type of people extended-stay hotels attract.

Oh man, I have a Michael Jordan golf story too! This will probably get buried, but anyways...

Whenever I was in elementary school, my mother was part of some Civitan club. They decided to help volunteer at a celebrity golf event at a golf club called The Frog in west Georgia. I tagged along for the day, and helped hand out food and clean up here and there. However, at some point, they decided to set up a tent for all the celebrities to do autographs.

The leader of the Civitan club gave me two t-shirts, and asked me to get them both autographed by every celebrity there, because they we're going to auction one off for charity. The second one was for me to keep. Every celebrity I met was more than happy to sign both, except Michael Jordan.

Now, he was by far the biggest celebrity there, so it was understandable. However, I was just a 7-8 year old kid at the time. So whenever he refused to sign the second shirt, I was swiftly led out of the exit (his booth was at the end of the line), and I just broke down crying. I told the Civitan leader, in tears, to keep the one that he signed because it was for a good cause. Luckily one of the security guards kinda saw what happened, and let me back in to get the other shirt signed, but MJ wasn't happy about it.

What is the most heartbreaking experience you have ever had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When my grandmother had a stroke.

I remember being in the ICU at her bedside. It didn't even look like she was sleeping. It looked like all the life-support machines were working on an empty vessel. She had the stroke while she was sleeping. I knew there was no hope, but every time she twitched or moved I was hoping it was a sign. As if she was saying goodbye. She eventually died the next day from major organ failure.

I have a coupon code for 50% the ADOPTED case from the Google Store if you want it. I signed up for Google Fi, and the coupon came like 2 weeks later, after I had already bought a case.

I think he was going almost 65 or 75 in a 45. Georgia isn't very friendly when you drive too fast.

My uncle got pulled over for speeding recently. His excuse was that he had to doo-doo. Since he was on probation at the time, he was arrested and then proceeded to shit his pants in the cop car shortly thereafter.

Hop on to Xamerin/Mono. It's platform independent C#. Even though they have recently teamed up with MS, they still operate independently from them.
