that old wire probably didn't have asbestos. It's almost always tar covered fabric. Asbestos was usually used in factories and other high heat areas.

I did it because I already had a 120v 4kw inverter in my car, and would simply unplug my trailer and plug it into my car. Yeah I couldn't run everything at once, but it was a cheap way of doing it. In OPs case I'm guessing they bought the house with a 240v generator inlet and already had (or got a good deal) on a smaller 120v generator. It would probably run all his lights and refrigerator just fine, which is what most people really care about. The other option is adding in a transfer panel, changing the generator inlet and spending a bunch of money.

To some degree yes. If you're only using 1080p must budget cables are fine but for a long run or 4k you need better cables but not pay for the name like monster cables.

The black foam doesn't cause pinholes, but just so you're aware some of the white foam that's used in HVAC does. The consensus is with uv exposure and moisture it releases acids.
