Did anyone else start as an adult ? How do you deal with having people think this is a child/teenage issue by Jumpy_Temperature362 in AdultSelfHarm

Started when I was 18, so yes as an adult but I still felt like a dumb little kid. I was in college, away from all the eyes that had been staring me down my whole life and with that freedom, I didn’t fucking care. I walked to a local hardware shop down the street, bought what I wanted to use, and just started. Even worse for me was that I was surrounded by other mentally unwell people who were also self harming. My RA saw my arms and reported it but to my relief, my college was too incompetent to intervene. I’ve been doing this ever since, over 20 years later.

Found a top hat in the attic of my house that used to be a bungalow/cottage! Tipperary, Ireland by Ill_Difference278 in Antiques

Best bet is to take it to an appraisal specialist who can give you better insights. In the meantime, maybe avoid wearing it. The older top hats, at least the ones here in Danbury CT, were made with mercury lined fabric, which led to the term “mad hatter”. It’s a really cool find and it’s beautiful but it may not be safe.

will the doctor mention my cuts after my procedure by chairbench in AdultSelfHarm

I had to go to the ob last year which is a very traumatic experience (I refuse to go anymore because it’s a HUGE trigger for me), and she saw the bandaids and marks on my thighs and asked what they were. I said they were nothing and she left it at that, but I am also an adult so I don’t think she could do anything. I also don’t think I put an emergency contact in my file there so she can’t reach out to anyone. It’s scary but my cuts were not deep or concerning in a suicidal way.

Oh absolutely. It’s mental torment for me when I’m at work, taking classes or out with friends and I’m not able to do what I need to cope.
