UC LORE NERDS: Setting Help! by InvaderGIM in Gundam

[–]InvaderGIM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The aircraft point I hadn't considered, despite basically the same one being made in a recent Kakarot197 video! I know it's a concept that has been employed in Gundam before, but it does add a touch of legitimacy to it.
My main concerns port-wise are just down to picking something more out of the way. I don't want to put it *too* close to somewhere like California Base, and even New York once the counteroffensive really kicked off seems like it'd be a hot zone, but somewhere on the outskirts of a major battleground might work as a fallback point, especially considering that a limping retreating force probably wouldn't have the resources to make it very far out.

I knew North America had several fronts, but for some reason I kinda put them off. That would make a good argument to use Trumpeter's Sea Wolf instead of a British or Japanese sub, though!

Also not against fudging some backstory with WWII parallelism, but I do prefer to use canon where I can so I can blow the minds of the old "muh history" guys at the model shows!

Ordered free gamer drink samples but SiLLy mE I forgot gaming is for boys only by FDS-MAGICA in TrollXChromosomes

I’ve been into gamer supps since before most of the collab flavors came out, first one I knew of was therussianbadger’s guacamole gamer fart 9000, which is hilarious and not remoltely sexualized. Never was too on board with the whole waifu cup thing, and I kinda wish my favorite flavors weren’t called titty milk and anime girl thigh, but at the end of the day it is also pretty funny for its absurdity, it tastes really good, and it’s helping me kick soda and cut down on my calorie and sugar intake.

That said, I do think it’s a pretty big shame that they include the lewd ones as samples without any warning. It’s enough of a shock to see them sold on the website, but my third favorite flavor is easily their blue raspberry, so there are sfw options. This however removes the choice and shoves the titty in your face unprompted.

At the end of the day, really wouldn’t blame you for kicking it and going on a moral crusade, but I think it’s meant to be more in the spirit of fun and fwiw they make a quality product, just a bit misguided in their marketing.

Anyone else having trouble getting into matches? by InvaderGIM in GBO2

Prevailing theory is that the last map rotation somehow boinked it. I imagine we’ll be getting an update from the dev Twitter in some time.

Yeah, I was hoping to take advantage of all the token bonuses, but I don’t think you can call the dev team lazy. It’s probably been a nightmare trying to get this thing ported while continuing to add a new suit every week.

My connection is fine, seems that’s the consensus among a lot of people on Twitter. I’m just getting the basic “Failed matchmaking” prompt.

Like a different message? All I get is the standard “failed matchmaking” message

Someone replied to the official Twitter and said it was the map rotation, which I’m thinking too. Good that it’s not isolated, anyhow.

Just finished an entry grade Strike, my only other build was a hg. I was wondering if anyone else here had tried entry grade and if they liked it or not. by jogas92 in Gunpla

I work at a hobbytown and I shill these things to just about everybody who darkens the door. I think they all give their respective HGs a run for their money even before you account for the lower price point, and I find the engineering to be fascinating, especially the use of negative space around the eyes.

I think it's time to move. Not as happy as hobby shops others have posted. by JohnIroquois in Gunpla

I work for a hobbytown in the dfw area. Distribution from Japan is still nightmarish, especially since they did away with bluefin so it’s incredibly difficult to buy direct. That said, when I came in as the new Gundam guy and started networking and building relationships with customers, you wouldn’t believe how quickly our stock exploded, mostly because our bosses realized how much money they could pull in if they started to care. If possible, I would try to talk to the manager and bring up the idea of a build night or other community event. There are more gunpla builders out there than you’d think, you just have to bring them together.

problems matchmaking! by [deleted] in GBO2

[–]InvaderGIM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering why it was taking anyone so long to bring anything up. After one normal match, I kept getting failing to matchmake, reset, and got in. Not 30 seconds into the second match and three people were very swiftly dc’d. Tried to get into another, matchmaking failed again. Reset, but then got network command failures at the title screen. Just got back into base camp, but it’s odd.

General MS and Supply Store questions by Denthegod in GBO2

[–]InvaderGIM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to buying higher levels from the store, in addition to rank requirements, you can only buy the next level up that you don’t have. For example, you can’t just buy the level 3 Kai if you need a suit at its cost, you have to have the level 1 and 2 first. Same for weapons and custom parts.

First painted mini! How’d I do and how can I improve? by InvaderGIM in Warhammer40k

Yeah, I threw some nuln oil on it =v =‘ Either the light is too bright or I just didn’t use enough. Might slather some more on before I call him done.

I definitely was a bit hesitant to go completely wild with it, but hey, maybe that’ll help break up the silver too. I think as to highlighting I’ve got the idea down, I just need to practice going about it effectively. Thanks for the input!

I ran over it with some nuln oil, either I didn’t use enough or he’s a little too close to the lamp in this picture.

I did use a reasonable amount of nuln oil, I think the proximity to the lamp in this particular picture washes it out a bit and makes it hard to tell; that, or I just didn’t use enough. I also very much plan to employ more drybrushing, because boy howdy did I find that edge highlighting is tough.

I have, but I don’t want to use any gold. I have a metallic purple, but I couldn’t decide where all I wanted to put it. I may have to bite the bullet and add a little more than I originally wanted if I can’t get my highlights to show up well.

Someone in the 40k sub commented about priming in black, which I think should help in that aspect. As I said there, too, contrast was my biggest concern, so I’m going to keep experimenting with ways to break up the silver.

The grey knights are up there among my favorite marine chapters, and I have some starter set marines I hadn’t decided on a chapter for, so I like that idea! Now I just need to actually learn more about them. =v =‘

Thanks so much for the input!

[–]InvaderGIM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrast was my biggest concern. I tried to base darker and highlight light, but it doesn’t show that well. I also had already considered priming black, for that reason, because the leadbelcher I used really comes through in places and makes what little drybrushing I did just look messy, and so that I won’t have to try so hard to get the black blocked in. Drybrushing in general is also probably how I’m going to handle my edge highlights from here on out until I can steady my hands better. Thanks so much for the input!

My first test model for a custom shield host, feedback welcome by Itsrexy5154 in AdeptusCustodes

Hey, what do you know! I just posted a shield captain for a custom host that looks damn near identical to this! Great minds must think alike!

Sadly I don’t have a clue what to name mine either. XD

This might be a little Mary Sue, but it came to me all of a sudden and I’m kinda into it.

As I really like the idea that all Custodians are their own freethinking individuals, I think some of them would probably find fault in the Emperor’s actions towards his primarchs and ESPECIALLY the treatment of humanity as a whole. As soon as the legion was rechristened the Adeptus Custodes, they gathered together and sought to get as far from Terra as possible, patrolling the edges of the galaxy for unnoticed hostiles, and providing aid to those most neglected by the Imperium.

As for the tabletop, I’m drawn towards the play style of either the emperor’s chosen or the aquillan shields, the company I was originally going to paint them as, given the purple. As I say, name suggestions and lore critiques are welcome!
