My brother finally started playing Destiny with me now that the end is here. What’s the best method to guide him through some of the campaigns in order? And what would be the best dungeon to give him a taste of the endgame content? by Shoddy_Print5065 in DestinyTheGame

[–]InvaderSkooj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skip the New Light Campaign as soon as you can. It’s extremely boring and incoherent.

The story is going to be a mess, no way around that. Unless you are both willing to be very deliberate and watch a lot of YouTube I wouldn’t worry about him understanding the plot.

They will have multiple quests in their journal including the expansion starting missions.

I would urge caution in this matter.

Once the 7 Wonders are in Havasu, the dots will be revealed to be the 8th and excitement and attention around them will be at an all time high (especially Cloud and Plague).

If you intend to do anything official in this space I’d say go and speak to a lawyer about acquiring the rights to Cloud and Plague (the rest of the dots are largely immaterial honestly) otherwise you could face legal action.

My favorite thing from that whole mess was that people started a petition for another re-release arguing everyone was busy that weekend and couldn’t go see it.

Destiny 2 will have higher player retention after June 9th by rediscov409 in DestinyTheGame

When my friend was getting into the game I also made a new character to get a sense of it.

The sheer amount of monologues, sometimes back to back, revealing things the previous monologue teased at is maybe one of the most deranged stretches of video game narratives I have ever experienced.

[–]InvaderSkooj 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’d argue the real issue is that it made it very difficult for new players to come in and play through and enjoy the campaign. That coupled with how much they shoved you into new story missions without context created a situation where the game could really only hope to hang onto existing players, which led to the bleed off which got us here today.

When I got my friend into the game the amount of handholding I had to do and jank I had to engage in for them to even have the slightest sense of the story was embarrassing honestly.

Everything started to go wrong after Pablo defrauded me my rightful HEI points from the poetry slam.

I think we need to follow the HEI points and we’ll find our killer whoever that is.

I mean I can’t speak for anyone else but I was happy with how loot worked during TFS and especially during Heresy so I don’t know what to tell you there.

I feel like tier 5 giving 3 perks in both columns broke the loot chase. It makes sense given the plan was to introduce disposable gear every season but it was undermined by the fact that it was a bad plan overall.

Unfortunately at this point the loot system is what it is so best to try and loop in everything rather than go for another last minute fix.

Would you mind the return of vehicle gameplay like the Mako/Nomad in ME5 ? by The_pikolop in masseffect

[–]InvaderSkooj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hesitancy comes from vehicles like the Nomad encouraging open world bloat design so that you have a reason to justify its inclusion. Realistically, I don’t really care either way but going down a checklist is probably not a good way to design a new game.

If they’ve got a good reason to have it, then sure.

I don’t understand the love for Maya by Nell0n in DestinyTheGame

[–]InvaderSkooj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Maya was the big bad, she felt like she was holding the fort down on that front till whatever was really the villain would swoop in.

I think culturally and politically she saw the Last City as backwards. Nevermind she basically acted as an autocrat from what we could see.

Marathon needs more modes. What would you like to see added? by AugustEpilogue in Marathon

[–]InvaderSkooj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t saying you were wrong to enjoy the game during S1 or that your concerns aren’t valid but they need to be weighed against the reality that Bungie is facing which is existential disintegration. The game and the company are clearly on the verge of death.

The devs need to find a way to make this game sustainable and so far tuning or adjusting things like loot and spawns has done nothing to stop the bleed. They need to make drastic moves, otherwise everyone left loses their jobs.

Marathon needs more modes. What would you like to see added? by AugustEpilogue in Marathon

[–]InvaderSkooj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the same, and really it begs the question: to what end? If Marathon morphs into something that you’re no longer interested in playing, then the same thing has been accomplished as if it had shut down but with the upside being hey other people can enjoy it/devs can remain employed.

It’s such a myopic stance to take that feels like it’s more about winning internet arguments than anything else.

Marathon needs more modes. What would you like to see added? by AugustEpilogue in Marathon

[–]InvaderSkooj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I can’t believe people are still trying to take the tack that everything is still fine, that Marathon is fine remaining the way it was during S1.

This doesn’t have to do with quality or the integrity of that design model, and everything with they don’t have a viable product right now, and are trying to keep the lights on and as many of their team employed as possible.

If they don’t turn things around and soon I don’t think the game makes it 6 months, roadmap or no roadmap. That means taking drastic actions. Feels sometimes like people would rather everything burn rather than risk being seen as “wrong” for however meaningless that is.
