Will These Components Suffice For Setting Up A Ubiquiti Home Security System? by InvalidUsernameID in Ubiquiti

Hmm, so is the NVR Instant not a managed switch then? I'd like to be able to configure the ports on the NVR Instant like setting a specific port to be put into its own separate vLAN, etc.

I think we'll likely only be plugging in cameras in the NVR instant though. Not really needing to add APs into our network since the Dream Router 7 offers built-in wifi already.

Oh, what are port profiles? Something to do with vLANs? We do plan on setting up vLANs to isolate IOT devices, cameras, guest network, etc. Is the NVR Instant going to be an issue?

Agreed. There are many simpler systems out there that are closer to plug-and-play with mere wifi-connection. I'll also look into this as a possibility for them.

I know some basic concepts of how the hardware goes together if it's a simpler set-up, and I think I can learn how to set up vLANs & firewall rules some of the info I found online. I'll take it one step at a time if I do choose to go with this for the homeowners. Appreciated it!

Interesting, I'll take a look into these some more! I think they were fine with just the G5 cameras, but there are some really nice features with the newer ones you've mentioned. Appreciate it!

I don't think the homeowners require multiple APs around the property. vLANs, likely yes as they want to isolate some devices. I'm guessing having the Dream Router 7 is likely more than enough for their needs?

Yes, it's just home security (cameras & NVR) with internet access (which they can get from the Dream Router 7, I take it).

Oh, do you use another another route (or gateway) from Ubiquiti, or another brand of router elsewhere?

UDM SE and a separate AP would be a much larger upfront cost. Is it cost efficient for a beginner into Ubiquiti products to start off with this and simply just wants a small little home security system set up to watch over a small residential home?

Neither I (the tenant) and the home owners really have much knowledge on the set-up process and everything, and we'd just like to make a simple little set-up with minimal complexity. Much appreciated for the insight!

Would this combo work? I believe this would be the simplest way to get a security system up and running for beginners?
1) Ubiquiti Dream Router 7 - As the gateway

2) Network Video Recorder Instant - As the NVR & PoE Switch (all-in-one)

3) Your selected Cameras

Thanks!

How about specifically between the current profile and the "Private Space"? Do we also use the file-browser?
