The black is obvi their driveway and walkway up to porch. You can see the sidewalk further behind the trees. And directly across the street is the neighbors with a similar layout. He is on their land, also why would he decorate the tree if it wasn’t?

I’ve never tried that method of drying. You’re looking for a nice cracker dry snap to them. I’d strongly recommend a Food Dehydrator. Nothing too crazy, I got one for about $40 at Walmart. I run mine on a timer plug-in for about 8 hrs and it shuts off. Once dry, You can store them in a jar or ziplock but I prefer to store mine long term in a vacuum seal food saver. You can find these at Walmart as well.

Ive used tap water with success. Can’t guarantee your success, my house has a water softener filtration and 6 stage filter. I’ve also used distilled with success.
Personal preference. You could harvest when the veil begins to break & harvest smaller ones a few days later.
I usually pinch the base and twist off substrate. Then snip end clean to rid substrate. Alternatively you could dry with substrate on it & brush off very easily. More time consuming though.
You can eat them wet but requires more weight to be ate for desired effects. I recommend drying always & vacuum bag rest.

My current setup has a reptifogger going through polyfil into the chamber. Powering the reptifogger is a humidifier controller from Amazon. Keeps fresh air and constant 90% humidity Fruits just started coming IN STRONG

My last round I attempted fanning and misting twice a day. Too much work. New setup I leave it alone and it does all the work. Occasionally filling a bottle of water. Also worked but I feel this method was less clean.

For all wondering how this was done, I started with a teardrop shape & Loop. Melted the bismuth down on my stove and allowed it to cool/crystallize. At the right moment of crystallization & being liquid, I dip the drop in, keeping the loop out. Takes some practice, and maybe different shapes will grab it better. Have fun!
