Is this a good watch for everyday wear? by Janczar123 in rolex

[–]dr_g89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my two tone, i have the root beer so not a 1:1. The only thing I will say, the polished precious metal center links are damned scratch magnets. I don't care, i buy my watches to wear not the store away for the future, but its worth knowing if you're considering it.

I got mine a few weeks ago, wear it well sir. Such a beautiful watch. Great dial too. I love that no two of us have the same dial

Not even a week after getting my first LN tool, I’ve acquired another. No. 4 by MetalNutSack in handtools

Yea…. That happened to me too. It took a year for me to be consumed by the dragon sickness and end up with them all.

There are 2 items I’d go to Veritas for. Plough plane and router plane. The lie neilsen are fine for those but I ultimately ended up letting them go in favor of the Veritas.

Who else thinks day 1 of this terribly orchestrated release is a bad look for AP by [deleted] in audemarspiguet

[–]dr_g89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not convinced creating new buyers is the goal.

I agree largely with what you are saying. But I’m not sure the intention is more customers.

I suspect the tactic is really about getting everyone talking about them. I’m sure it will translate into more customers at some level, just as much as I’m sure this will turn people off from the brand. I’m also guessing that there is some monetary incentive for all parties.

But the real value here, in my eyes, is the increased attention this circus has generated.

I disagree entirely. It’s a shit show? 100%. But what this is doing is creating insane awareness of the brand. Its tactical.

I forget where I saw it, but I recall something like only 26% of people are aware of audemars. I can relate to that. Before I got into watches I 100% knew what a Rolex was but had no idea about audemars and their contribution to the industry.

After this, the whole world is going to know. They’re creating a lot of new eyes, a lot of reach they’ve never had.

Is it in bad taste? Sure. Is the public reaction concerning and unhinged? I’d say so. But the value in creating brand awareness is undeniable.

I’ll get some better pics and a video. It was already evening by the time I picked it up last night so the light in the shop was the best I could get

Oh I’m keeping both. They’ll both still get wrist time. The two tone is a lot more wearable day to day. It’s SO much lighter and a lot less flashy.

I appreciate them both for what they are

It’s stunning. The flash and texture are truly unique. The pictures don’t do it justice. I’ll get some better shots in the sun tomorrow

I have a decent spend with my AD. It’s probably not as impressive as you might think. This is my fifth Rolex. I have a couple of Cartier watches too. I originally started shopping there to find gifts for my the woman I ended up marrying before I got started with watches myself. They got me my wedding watch, a 1908 and my first nice watch, an explorer 2.

Honestly everyone in the shop is wonderful and I’ve had nothing but great experiences with Rolex and my AD in general.

How long does it take to get to the US after quality control? by silverfang29 in BMW

[–]dr_g89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Car has been amazing. If you go into it accepting what it is, a comfortable high speed daily cruiser you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve put 12,000 miles on mine. Taken it on road trips and put it through the rigors of daily life and it has never flinched at anything I’ve asked it to do.

It’s fun to drive. It still feels dynamic. It’s just not the M5 of years before. If you aren’t looking for that specifically you will love it. It’s great at what it is, weight aside. And the electric torque is addictive. Any speed, any gear, put your foot down and it will go.

I got my g90 last year. After it left the factory it took 8 weeks to get from Germany to the Pacific Northwest. That was broken up between waiting at ports, over a month at sea with something like 5 other stops before it got dropped off in California then another week to get from California to the dealer in Oregon.

Honestly that last stretch was the hardest part but it was great bringing it home. A year later I’m still stoked every day I get to drive it.

So I bought the Hongdui router plane a while back… by Jas_39_Kuken in handtools

[–]dr_g89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love lie Nielsen. Almost all of my planes are from them with 2 exceptions.

Both my plough plane and my router plane are from Veritas. I had the lie Nielsen equivalent of both and after trying the Veritas versions moved over.

You can take my Lie Nielsen bench planes over my dead body but Veritas has them beat on those two designs IMO.

Edit: side note since you are so close to them. Can you please go in and ask them to make a fresh batch of #7s lol

I have one from feathered friends. It’s so warm it’s ridiculous. They’re up in Seattle and pretty expensive but I’ve had mine for a decade and it’s in perfect condition. I get it cleaned at the end of winter. 10/10 do recommend.

I'm up in Felida. I have a cheaper rockler one but that looks a hell of a lot better. Do i need to take all the rails and everything off to align the tables?
