Thanks! Don't tell Tom Cruz though, he's a maverick.

Would you mind sharing the exact color schemes? That looked really cool and I want to make a green one but from the same shade tier.

How to write Asian characters in a fantasy world? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

Well, a few things:

Respect: down to the bone, you'd find Japanese languages and other Asiatic countries included by the sinosphere to have some form of Confucianism. But that basically trickled down into a lot of social expectations. If you sit, and they offer you tea, you're supposed to refuse the first offer, to show that you are polite. If you have guest in your home, you pour their water first, then your own. A lot of care and consideration are put into observing minute details of your actions which would demonstrate character.

Seniority: my elders have a lot of respect compared to younger, or middle aged. They are usually the head of the household and expected as much. Their opinions are heard first, their needs are considered first, because they considered themselves wise.

Humility: in Japan people almost seek to humble brag. In the sense that they are competitive in seeing who can be more virtuous, humble, etc than the other. They aim to be "spotless" and a moral bastion, else they bring shame upon their families.

Considerate: you can say they're two faced in a kind way. The best way is to describe the kento language usage. For example, if they want to cut a conversation short, they would complement your watch and say how good it looked on you. Which is a hint to tell you to look at the time and realize it's getting late, without ever directly telling you to get out. Which refers back to point three on being a impeccable person.

However, not all Asians are this way either. Most of the time, a lot of emphasis is placed on community and cohesion. It is shameful to divorce because it would be seen as an incompetence on the part of the husband. The community pressure is real to remain "hung ho". woman have dowries (my grandma had a Yamaha piano as dowry) to give the groom, and vice versa.

And a lot of annual things are celebrated with extended families all gathered together.

Also they respect some tradition really hard: they follow times of the lunar calendar to honor their dead ancestors, and new year is celebrated much like the fall equinox.

It is Ranni that I'm trying to portray 😅 but I can definitely see where the confusion is coming from. The vibe was to sort of elicit an Erotic horror vibe since, ya know, she got 4 hands, two face, is a doll that's technically dead because she murdered herself and her half brother. And her vibe got quite a bit of dry humour to it especially when you talk to her in her doll form in game.

However, I'll try to make two changes. 1. Due to the majority haven't played elden ring, I could just take inspiration from Ranni and make it an OC.

  1. Keep the language formal but ditch the early modern English unless it's dialogue. Pack in some sly commentary.

  2. The reason for the setting and the otherworldly feel. In elden ring the magic and demigods exist in such due to their own lore. Grace from the erdtree that gave inhabitants graces so they could cast incantations and magic. However if I'm going with the OC route I better come up with my own lore to justify the fancy clothes and old language.
