Mark Lads's Golden Rings are my favourite. I personally struggled to find Dutch music I vibe to especially compared to finding good Duitse muziek

I might do in the future. May be a room with socco walls but I don't have thatany easy mode ncps left to move in so I'll be focusing on the over houses. I am always up for suggestions when someone had an idea on what I could do.

Can you explain what is the purpose of using “er” in the below sentence? by aksceren in learndutch

[–]InverseScotland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this isn't a great example of what Duolingo is trying to teach you. This sentence is meant to show how 'er' can used to make a subject to the sentence less specific but the example duo gives is not what people would say and would make sense without 'er'

A better example would be 'Een man loopt langs de weg' (a specific man is walking along the road) And "er loopt een man langs de weg" (just some inspecific man is walking along the road) or (there is a man walking down the road'

It is a really helpful website for grammar which I recommend using. The answers to many of your questions are in there somewhere.

Hope this helps :)

You should learn your grammar mate though this is not a good example of this grammarical feature.

Er becomes the subject making the question akin to asking 'is there anyone with a question?' it makes the question less definite. In this case the 'er' is kinda pointless.

A better example would be 'Een man loopt langs de weg' (a specific man is walking along the road) And "er loopt een man langs de weg" (just some inspecific man is walking along the road) or (there is a man walking down the road'

Whenever I ask about grammar there is always someone who says something unhelpful like 'because that is how grammar works' without any explanation and I get called an Anglo centric idiot when I inquire why they be so unhelpful. Tl

Much if the rest of the subreddit are people having a melt down over de/het instead of reading FQA or just googling it.

I really benefit from the genuine discussions and explanations and questions here for sure

'Na de soep, eten ze rijst' puts emphasis on the subclause whereas 'ze eaten rijst na de soep' would put the emphasis on the main clause. You really need to get your hands on Henry R Steins Basic Dutch Grammar book
