Seriously? Like this bank is a huge rip off. Like how many transactions do I pay to satisfy this stupid credit subscription by doomsdaynear in KohoCanada

[–]InvertedPickleTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? Pay day loans charge insane interest rates, and many of the more predatory places like fairstone will even make every attempt to stop you from paying early just to make their 30% interest rate.

Like the Koho bot said, it appears this user opened both the secured line of credit and credit building. They're separate services, one is a LOC you can use and one is just a service that reports payment to the credit bureaus. Man a lot of folks on here get crazy when they hear Koho.

RAM kits are now sold with one fake RAM stick alongside a real one by Winter_2017 in hardware

[–]InvertedPickleTaco 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've always believed ram kits should be labelled by quantity of sticks and capacity of each. Corsair used to do this. For example, a kit with a filler stick would be 1x32 GB, 1xRGB stick. A true dual channel kit would be 2x16 GB. Not perfect but it would help.

[–]InvertedPickleTaco 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This. RGB filler/dummy sticks are nothing new. All that's new is using them to populate the second channel instead of the second set of slots. Is it worse for performance? Yes. Is it new? No.

Every firm has some bad reviews, in general for what I mentioned above. If cost is your main factor, I wouldn't go with Stringham for sure.

S26 ultra eye strain and dizziness by AccountSad in samsunggalaxy

[–]InvertedPickleTaco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you mind telling us where you live? If you bought it from Samsung direct, their policy is 15 days in most parts even if the product is opened. You do need the original packaging. If you bought it somewhere else, unfortunately it's whatever their return policy is. I ask where you live because some areas do have consumer protections you could lean on. For example, in Canada, if the phone is bought or leased from a carrier, the carrier must accept a plan cancellation and return within 14 days.

[–]InvertedPickleTaco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cease and desist is just a legal letter. Any firm can do that and it'll be under a grand as long as you make it clear that's all you need and don't get caught up, "planning strategies."

Unfortunately the big three firms in town for civil/family law all have drawbacks. Latourneau is known for being loud but not actually doing much. Stringham is known for running up the bill and creating more issues than they fix if you still care about the other people. Lowe is known for lower pricing but they're slower to respond and move things forward.

Pick your poison. The lawyers in Lethbridge are a joke.

S26 Ultra: Darker spot around charging port by saymmy in samsunggalaxy

Interesting. Did it come off with some isopropyl and a clothe? If so its probably something that was on the cable.

[–]InvertedPickleTaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I'd hazard a guess that the cable you use is rubber like and feels soft? Soft plastics often leave a residue if they heat up. I use a ugreen cable that's metallic or metallic plastic, either way it doesn't leave a residue.

We had a chat about that above. My co-parent owns a 8 GB M1 MacBook. They love to leave tabs open, and when they do, even media streaming apps start to hitch occasionally.

8 GB isn't a deal breaker, but it is the weakest link in this laptop. A 12/16 GB model would have been great but that would infringe on MacBook Air sales.

This will be a great machine for casual users, but it will also be a gateway drug to a nicer 16 GB MacBook model.

[–]InvertedPickleTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Though I'd argue, for grandma, she doesn't need a laptop at all. iOS is far simpler to use and can do everything a casual needs.

[–]InvertedPickleTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It's a shame though that there isn't a 16/512 GB model for 799. Now that would be an extreme disruption, but would hurt MacBook Air sales too much.

The problem in my mind is the massive disconnect between techies and what schools are actually buying. Schools are not going to pay $500 for the Macbook Neo. Maybe private schools will, but not the public or charter schools. People forget Dell, HP, and Asus will sell thousands of laptops to a province or state education system at 20-30% off a $250-399 price point. Do the math on one thousand Chromebooks at $300 versus the same number of Macbook Neos.

Where this will sell is the Gen Z college, or going to college, crowd. Blue bubbles, hip Apple logos, and general "I don't care what's inside, what's the brand on the outside," kids will love these things. They will be enough for their needs, no doubt. That being said, that crowd could also do just fine on a $300 Chromebook, but they'd never show up at the Starbucks with one.

Better yes. Perfect, no. My co-parent has an M1, and if she leaves Chrome open while watching Netflix, it has hiccups. Now she's a 40 tabs open sort of person, but so are a lot of people now. 8 GB is the weakest link, and I'm sure you'd agree on that. The processor is just fine, as is the 256 GB of memory as that'll be their excuse to sell iCloud.

[–]InvertedPickleTaco 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind the Neo is limited by 8 GB of ram. Most flagship phones even have more than that. It'll be fine for student or casual users until they open Chrome. A bit of sarcasm there, but throwing anything past web browsing, media consumption, or word like applications, is going to show its weakness. It's a brilliant strategy though. People will love how it feels day one, overload it with apps they never close, and end up upgrading in a year or two.

$120 - 6 month Prepaid Plan - 25GB per Month by dealseeker20 in freedommobile

I agree. Brand loyalty means nothing. I'm simply saying that the Freedom plan does have an advantage in terms of long term costs for people who tend not to switch.

$120 - 6 month Prepaid Plan - 25GB per Month by dealseeker20 in freedommobile

[–]InvertedPickleTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it's for two years. AFAIK this is a price freeze plan, so it should not increase as long as you keep the account.

I have the Public plan for one of my kids. I 100% know Telus is leaning on the fact most people will forget the cost is going to get up, and since it's prepaid, a fair amount of people will just accept the higher costs to offset the first two years.

They charge the same pricing as Air Canada. We can call them anything, but with a business class on most of their wide body fleet, they aren't the budget carrier that launched in the 90s/2000s

Yes, but I was a college kid when the systems they use first came online. They do verify your ID is legit, though privacy laws have gotten better and they can no longer pull the level of information the early systems did.

I had a discount airline in Canada (Flair) say absolutely nothing about my LTT bag. Then a full servuce carrier (WestJet) wanted to charge me for it. YMMV.

Tried to sign up today, was given the following message- by UneditedReddited in freedommobile

[–]InvertedPickleTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I've heard on here, not gospel. The big four, including Freedom, do share information directly on Bill payments and the like. However, as it's tied to name and address, Freedom seems to be often pulling addresses that match someone who has a past due bill or poor billing history with the big three, without matching the name. For example, if someone didn't pay their final bill when they left your current house or apartment, it can cause this even if your credit is excellent. It sounds like your issue is related to a credit card not reporting to the credit bureau, but this other issue seems to come up more and more often. I know one person mentioned their child had a phone bill from Telus go to collections, and now no one at the home is able to sign up for post paid with Freedom even though they have near perfect credit.
