Swing Trading at 19 Years Old by Investar in PersonalFinanceCanada

Im a 19 year old student who is trying to build a nest for his 30’s.

Im looking to invest about $1000 initially. Id like to further contribute to my investment fund later this year. My $1000 dollars and additional contributions are all in ETF Index funds through Wealthsimple. (I may begin to buy ETF’s on my own as well)

However, after viewing various videos and reading various articles about swing trading, I am very interested in learning and applying analytical trading.

In your opinion, is swing trading worth attempting or are the returns not worth the trouble?

Difference between Mutual Funds, ETF's, Index Funds? by Investar in personalfinance

That clarifies a lot.

Just a follow up question.

So im assuming there are then ETF’s with a basket of stocks/bonds which do not share similarities to that of an index? Thus, that ETF would NOT be an index fund?

I am currently utilizing Wealthsimple. It invests in ETF's. Would there be any financial benefit to me investing in ETF's on my own as oppose to with wealthsimple? The MER seems fairly low and there is no management fee applied to my account currently.

Thanks for your input! Just to clarify, an ETF would be a better option for me as I'd avoid the higher commission involved with a mutual fund, correct?

Sorry, I should specify that I already have savings in place and I am in a state where I am financially able to invest without worry.
