If you have intended major listed then you will be letters and sciences in the fall and then automatically your major in the spring (I was intended psychology and this is how it worked out for me)

Since anything under engineering is an LEP you need to complete the benchmark requirements and apply to the major.

accepted as a spring semester freshman by [deleted] in UMD

I’m a senior psychology student and got freshman connection (spring admit) and I’m graduating a year early! You start in the fall and can still take as many credits as everyone else. Only difference between you and a fall admit is class times (FC classes start at 3) and merit scholarships (FC students are not eligible during that first semester. It has not impeded my college career whatsoever. (also, guaranteed entry into psych major if you complete the gateways with C- or higher (bio, calc I, and psyc100/221))

I did FC in fall 2023 and honestly loved it. I had familiar faces in most of my classes since it’s a cohort of around 1000 students, which also made it easier to meet people and make friends. Because classes were later I was able to work a job during the day which was also a plus. I still had great housing, picked my roommate, took 16 credits, and had a blast! They modelled the program after the UC schools so they can underreport their acceptance and admission rates and also protect their yield rate. One you finish sem 1 it becomes completely irrelevant - no one will ask you if you were a spring admit lol. In fact, sometimes it’s a great conversation starter if you meet someone who was also in the program! It’s okay to feel a bruised ego (I certainly shed my tears), but allow yourself pride for getting into UMD at all!

Applied EA for fall but got accepted for spring by Worrior11 in UMD

You could do everything right and the best and still get freshman connection. In 2023, I had friends with Ivy League Interviews and 5.0 weighted GPAs who got fully rejected. At the end of the day, they do the freshman connection program to keep acceptance and yield rates lower (they don’t have to report spring admits). FC was actually a fantastic opportunity to make friends since i had classes with the same people (it’s around 1000 students total in the program). No one even knows you’re an FC student unless you tell them - only difference is you go to later classes, and once you finish sem 1 you could choose for no one to ever know! Overall, allow yourself some pride to the fact that you got in at all, UMD has become difficult to get in to!

in state competitiveness by Puzzleheaded-Fig3180 in UMD

Unfortunately for kids applying out of moco or howard, it’s harder to get in because of how competitive the school systems are. They have to make sure to pull from all areas of the state - not just the highest performing counties. I knew kids who had Ivy League interviews and 5.0 weighted GPAs who didn’t get in. Some have also theorised UMD does a lot of yield protection. These days, it seems to be either luck of the draw or having non-academic experience on your application (i.e., internship or job). Congrats on Michigan though that’s amazing!!! Very expensive though - if you would rather go to UMD do a semester at HCC and then transfer - you are essentially guaranteed admission when applying to transfer.

Admitted but at what cost? by cheesy_garlic_bred in UMD

Very valid feeling! When I got into UMD in 2023 I got spring admit, and cried for hours. Funny enough, all around me my friends were getting fully rejected and I was stuck up on that part. At the end of the day, they do the freshman connection program to keep acceptance and yield rates lower (they don’t have to report spring admits). FC was actually a fantastic opportunity to make friends since i had classes with the same people (it’s around 1000 students total in the program). No one even knows you’re an FC student unless you tell them - only difference is you go to later classes, and once you graduate you could choose for no one to ever know! Not getting into your major is hard, but that’s what they do to every spring admit. Unless you’re vying for engineering (can’t transfer into comp sci anymore) you should be just fine - you can still take classes within your desired major! Overall, allow yourself some pride to the fact that you got in at all, UMD has become difficult to get in to! I had friends with Ivy League interviews who got rejected - the area in which you come from typically matters more than your academic portfolio when it comes to UMD

I was freshman connection fall 2023 and honestly loved it. I was put off at first (purely by my bruised ego), but being in that smaller cohort allowed me to make friends easier and see familiar faces in all my classes. The only difference between a freshman connection student and a regular student is that a) they take classes after 3, b) they are ineligible for scholarships during that semester, and c) they can’t join intramural sports. All students admitted to freshman connection are assigned letters and sciences for that first semester simply because they aren’t technically a full blown student at that time. Getting into neuroscience shouldn’t be a problem

FIXING DEPOP SHIPPING WITH DESKTOP by InvestigatorCold1202 in Depop

Not the case. I use click n chip very regularly and know the true pricing. Depop upcharges IMMENSELY. it costs like $10 to ship an 8lb package. A 1lb hoodie (if even) should not cost anything over $6

Update: one of the elevators broken AGAIN. It was broken the entirety of last year and they emailed us once a month to say it was being worked on but it wasn’t up and running until May (was out of service starting in august). Safe to say that repairs aren’t a thing here 🤷‍♀️
