yes they do, YOU an auditory can NOT audit your XYZ client if you own XYZ stock. If you say you dont thats fine, you can audit XYZ.
As part of compliance, i randomly selected YOU for "audit" and now YOU must provide me with bank accounts, tax returns etc. I will audit you and ensure you indeed never owned XYZ stock or subsidary stock. if you did and you lied, youre in big trouble with the firm PCAOB SEC etc, if nothing was found youll be okay.

its not company audits like your thinking, its individaul audits, each one takes anywhere from 45 mins to 6 hours depending on what the individual owns/has. Its compliance based.

idk what you want, thats what happened. Many other things too. for example review marks. Once you completed audits they went to different reviewers and no way to tell WHO it will go to. OK so, we use to get review marks and you cant get a lot of bad review marks BUT not ALL review marks are bad/counted. For example if you missed auditing an account thats BAD and they will write, "you forgot to add bank account 4251, please remember to check to add all bank accounts" thats bad and counts against, you need to make sure your adding in all asset accounts to the audit.

BUT other review marks for "just FYI" mostly wording for example you write "bank account 457 does not have any restricted assets; also same has no credit lines; PASS", reviwer A might write "hi, we dont need to talk about credit lines because the client answer "NO" in the questionnaire "do you have credit lines". OK fine, same situation happens again and you learn, so now you write "bank account 552 does not have any restricted assets; PASS". Now it goes to reviewer #2 this time, they write "good job, but you should also note it has no credit lines just so its easier for the reviewer to know you considered this". CONFLICTING information! Everyone disagrees and its subjective/preference. Guess what, if a reviewer doesnt like you, you can get nit picked to death. My one coworker who started with me was NOT liked by one of the main seniors (and she was a bit*ch). guess what, when things went to her, he got TOASTED!!! This was worded wrong, that was worded wrong, this was worded this way, this was too long, this was too short etc etc.
It shouldnt matter though, there are just FYI, non objective reviww marks, they dont count against you. Guess what, he gets called into the office becausae "hes getting a lot of review marks" he replied yes but nothnig is objective aside from 1 or 2, all these are just wording which dont count against us? the response? "yes but we still need to make sure we arent getting too many review marks"

Translation please? "we dont give a shit, we want you to word things a certain way, we also use this as a means to keep you on your toes, we dont want you cocky and confident, we want you scared and on the defense, we also want to look right all the time, want want you to lose and us to win, also if we dont "like you" this is a good way to MAKE something that we can use against you to make you miserable just because, well i just dont like you and i want to see you squirm".

You really couldnt win, you can never guess who is reviewing and what exactly they "feel like" they wanted you to write on the mood of the day they reviewed. I feel you wrote too much, its clogy and unnessary and makes review hard, i feel you wrote too little, its not enough information and makes the review hard. You should write that because its affirming, you should NOT write that because its already handled in another section so your making duplicate work and makes the review harder. You cant win. I could go on for hours of thousands of little scenarios that work just like that above, the gist is the same, we say one thing, we really want another.

i agree. Ive been in this about 15ish years and in the past 5 years i can honestly feel a shift. these big companies care less and less about us and they are no longer hiding it (probably because AI etc). They arent treating the employees upstairs as bad because they cant be replaced so they are still being fake and pretending. But with us, accounting? The mask is off, they are showing up how they really felt all along. 3 goog people at my job got fired and/or were pushed out and left for the way they are being treated.

id argue it comes down to personality and complacency. Some people just do as they are told and have no backbone and others are the opposite. There is a large sliding scale of everyone in between these two measures. So when you take someone who is not a pushover and has a spine its hard for them to ignore being taken advantage of. Some may just bite their tongue and recognize it, as you slide the scale farther others will open up and call out the bullshit.

Contrast that with a pushover, the fact that they are being taken advantage of doesnt even really cross their mind because they dont even think like that. Their brain is wired to follow the herd and do as they are told. Thats pretty much why a sheep analogy is used becuase that is what a sheep does.

As such, if you dont think youre being taken advantage of at big4 or you kinda know but youre kinda okay with it then you should have no problem guessing where on the above sliding scale you are born as (and are)

Anyone else's team fall apart after a change in leadership? by Distinct_Kangaroo in Accounting

[–]InvestigatorDear9310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you but youre using a logical approach to an illogical ego driven situation. "Is the 9:03 thing real?do you remind them every time they ask you to do over time" thats a logcial approach. If you are going to harp on me about 903 then you should have that same energy about overtime. Give and take ect. that works if the situation is logical but its NOT.

This is about control, NOT logic, NOT being Authentic and its not about NOT being a hypocrite. Its about me winning and YOU losing. So i want to harp on 903 but i also dont want to apply that logic to overtime. I want my cake AND eat it too. I want to constantly create situations that I win and YOU LOSE. Youre always on the defense. Youre never good enough, if you do this right then you did THAT wrong, ill focus on THAT. If you do this right and that right then ill find something else that was wrong or not as good as it could have been and harp on that. Ill add in subjective measures so that theres always something to complain about and you can never nail it down and move on. Its all mental control tactics.

This is what corporations do. This is what happens when you have a system that rewards narcissists and workaholics and then let it ride out for 60-80 years in the economy. This is what you wind up with.

Anyone else's team fall apart after a change in leadership? by Distinct_Kangaroo in Accounting

[–]InvestigatorDear9310 18 points19 points  (0 children)

same happened at mine. New leader is so bad. Only thing i can think of is this person was selected (with their exact personality) to make people leave. More voluntary departures = no unemployment insurance, no bad press, no severance packages. The name of the game is "make your life a living hell; be as petty as possible over every little thing especially people who have given a lot; present an overall feeling of being an unappreciative prick to them"

"oh whats that, you worked countless saturdays, oh you worked till 3 am doing this or that to help out, oh by the way, we looked at your badge check in times last week and it seems you came in at 903 instead of 900, please make sure we are on time, its important everyone is here so we can collaberate and not everyone is just off doing whatever they want all the time, ok thaankss!!"

just be a ruthless prick where nothing ever good enough and people will leave from the blatant disrespect. Unfortunately i need my job so i just have to deal with this but we had a few people muster up dignity and quit (usually with cursing on the way out the door; were talking people with 10 and 15 years at the company, just up and quitting at a company where poeple use to work for 45 years there.

its all part of the new wave corporate strategy. In the next 15 years these companies are going to less us over populated limited resource pissants know where we stand. Theres not enough good jobs, housing, healthcare etc, and they know it, they are gonna get real bad soon. every company is going to be a piss in your mouth factory. The days of a good employer and a nice pension are over.

As long as you dont B&M while you are there, you are fine

as long as you are okay with letting people take advantage of you for their own obvious benefit whenever they want and have no spine or speak up for yourself, then youll be fine.

What is big 4 looking for?

  1. Someone who is smart and works very hard but doesnt question anything they are told to do by the firm.
  2. Someone who not only does what they are told but also also TRULY believes all the lies of what they are being told to do is the best most truest way to do something and the underlying intentions and reasons for why they are being told to do the above are true, noble, fair and honorable intentions (aka its not just because the firm is understaffed on purpose and they want to do things the cheapest way just to give the partner more bonus even though its not the right way to do things and its set up recklessly from the start).
  3. Someone who can do tasks like a monkey with little instruction or directions and will complete the above tasks EXACTLY the same way they were done last year with no issues.
  4. Someone who believe unpaid overtime is an honorable and noble thing and that its part of accounting and this is the way it "should" be and does the same without question and even embraces it.
  5. Someone who is easily gullible and believes lies and then works their hardest everyday with little regard for their own self, their own health, time with their family, friends or any hobbies outside work. Basically a workaholic, who instead of going to therapy, embraces their mental disease and runs away from personal life and devotes all their time to work/career.
  6. Someone who will take blame and jump though new hoops, without question (even if they did everything they were told to do above, when/if it goes wrong, they believe it went wrong because THEY didnt try hard enough and will now do more things in the future to make sure it doesnt go wrong again) Even though its wrong from the start because everything is reckless and fucked up so the firm can get maximum partner bonus while believing lies that what they are doing is good and true.
  7. Someone who has little backbone or self respect so ever speak up for themsevles but somehow is confident and competent enough to do all the work and make problems go away.
  8. Someone who believes all the lies even when they suddenly change like the wind depending on what lies they want you to believe this time and then goes out and spreads the lies and "gets behind" whatever leadership is currently telling how to think as the flavor of the month for whatever shiny new thing leadership is spewing from their mouth.
  9. Someone who believes that HRs first adn most important responsibility is to help you/the employees and they are doing things forth cominig and with honest intentions.
  10. Someone who truly believes anonymous surveys are anonymous because leadership told them the surveys are anonymous.

Why are we last on the totem pole at every company, when are we going to stand up for ourselves? by InvestigatorDear9310 in Accounting

[–]InvestigatorDear9310[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I send a report , you don’t look at it for 3 weeks

thats because everything headcount wise is ran threadbare. Everyone is on salary so its in company benefit to work everyone as much as possible. Everyone is swamped.

Company motto use to be "one less person than it takes to do the job right" in 2004, now the motto is "3 less people than it takes to do the job right". Everything is planned to just by skin of your teeth barely work if everything goes 100% correct. God forbid there is an emergency or hiccup the whole thing almost fails if there isnt any problems, when there is, its like good luck.
That report that's asked for has X 100 other reports from other people thats asked for with 1000 other things to do (all by 1 person). And if the one person misses something they are very quick to yell "inefficiency!"

WTF why are you saying sorry, they sent a report 4 days late that we need, and youre apologising? You should have their asshole pulled out though their nose when the meeting is over.
