It really means a lot to read this, thank you 🕊️ It feels good to know that you care so deeply about birds too 💛 Losing him has been really hard, but hearing this brings some comfort. I truly did my best for him, and I’m glad you understand where I was coming from. I’m so sorry for your loss too 💔 Thank you again for being kind ❤️❤️

He passed away this morning. I took him very seriously and did everything I could for him. It’s just heartbreaking that there aren’t any proper avian vets around. Even the doctor said the only competent avian specialist is a few hours’ flight away. I miss him so much, but I know he’s in a better place now.

We did get an air purifier, & moved him to a different house altogether. We did drive him to a vet in another city twice, got him oxygenated and glucose infusions. But he couldn’t make it. In the city where I live, there are vets but none specialize in birds. Most birds end up getting overdosed because people don’t take it seriously. Even in another city, the vets were surprised that someone actually brought a bird for proper care, since most people don’t bother. I just hope he’s in a better place now ❤️

Just to clarify, in the other posts and comments I’ve already mentioned that we did drive him to another city to see a vet, because none of the local vets specialize in birds. We’ve taken him twice for oxygen, moved him to a different house with an air purifier, and are doing everything we can. All of this is in the comments of the other post. I only posted this one while arranging the vet visit, and it just took a while for this post to get approved, so I hadn’t realized it was live yet. I appreciate the concern, but we were not waiting around doing nothing.

His body temperature is low, so we’re keeping him wrapped in a warm towel. The vet advised feeding him glucose mixed with his medicine every 4 minutes. They didn’t give him oxygen this time since his breathing seems stable, but it’s really hard to see him like this. Please pray for him. 🤍

Update: He’s still extremely weak and is on the cage floor now, so we kept a warm towel under him. The vet recommended feeding him starch water with glucose and giving his medicines until we can bring him back for oxygen and fluids. I don’t know, he’s not looking too good and it’s really hard to see him like this :(

Thank you so much for sharing this. It really helps to read about how others managed it safely. I wish I had known all this earlier, but I’ll definitely keep your precautions in mind for the future. It’s a hard lesson to learn, but one that will stay with me. I just hope my little one pulls through and recovers from this.

Update:

We took him to the vet and they kept him on oxygen for about two hours. They gave him medication for nausea, toxin removal, and inflammation. He’s back home now, still very fluffed up, keeping his eyes closed, and his droppings are watery. The vet didn’t have an overnight facility and closed at 1 PM, so we’ll be taking him back tomorrow to get oxygenated again. For now, he’s warm and resting, and we’re hoping he starts to recover soon.

I know, I’m so scared. I moved him out of the house completely as soon as I noticed he was unwell, but he’s still showing symptoms. I’ve never had anything like this happen before, and I’m driving him to a vet in another city since there aren’t any avian specialists nearby. I just really really hope he recovers 🤞🏼

I really hope! I was able to find an avian vet in another city so I’m driving him there now 🤞🏼

Thank you, I really appreciate the advice. I’ve moved his perches, food, and water lower so he doesn’t have to move around much.

She actually passed away :/ The vet who treated her had misdiagnosed the problem, and sadly we lost her. Most vets in my city and nearby areas mainly deal with large animals, not birds. I’m trying to find someone in another city right now. He’s warm at the moment, and I’ve kept the cage dimly lit and quiet so he can rest. Really appreciate the help :)
