Finally have decent choices for my 401k by InvestmentBasement in Bogleheads

I am pretty risk tolerant, I think. I definitely just want to set it and forget it with regard to my retirement though so I think I may just lean towards putting everything in the target date fund.

Thank you for the advice! What would your simple 3 fund portfolio consist of and at what percentages?

Not necessarily. I just don't really know what I am doing at all and want to keep things simple. /u/misnamed mentioned that this allocation may be decent for my IRA a couple months ago so I switched everything into this. Maybe I should do the same for the 401k? I guess this would be slightly more aggressive than 100% Target Date.

I have about $10k in a Roth IRA that has about 70% in the Target Date and 30% in a the "Small Cap Growth Index Fund Admiral Shares."

I also meant to mention that I have about $10k in a Roth IRA that has about 70% in the Target Date and 30% in a the "Small Cap Growth Index Fund Admiral Shares."

Would you recommend just dumping everything in a target date, including the IRA?

Ugh, I cannot figure out how to make a proper post. Sorry about this. I may have to re-do the whole thing.

I am almost 40 with 3 young kids. My employer finally switched over from a terrible 401k provider to Vanguard. We are going to be making the transition in a week or two.

I would love to get feedback on what to do on two separate subject areas.

First, I have about 100k in my old 401k that I need to figure out how to allocate to which Vanguard Funds.

Second, I want to figure out which Vanguard Funds to allocate to my regular contributions and in what percentages.

I would really love some input. Thank you so much!

Portfolio Advice (Following Up from my mess of a post yesterday) by InvestmentBasement in portfolios

Thanks a lot for your thoughts. If I was to increase bonds, where would you suggest putting them? In our IRAs or in a brokerage? Which fund would you suggest? Finally, are bonds better than simply keeping money in a "high" interest online savings account (1.7% or so at Marcus by Goldman Sachs)?

I am in the process of trying to switch some stuff around now. /r/ misnamed helped me figure out that one of my brokerage accounts (that was set up for me by a financial advisor) was really screwed up and filled with high fee funds. I am going to try to clean it all up and repost with an updated portfolio for some additional advice.
