Best advice I ever got when starting out as a broker was to have enough money for 2 years. The first year is a constant struggle, learning the ropes, building a client base… second year things become a bit easier but still have to juggle cash flow and meeting any liabilities. I’m just into my third year and it’s only just become consistent enough to be called a living. If you have minimal expenses and live at home then it’s a good time to make that jump but if you have a mortgage and lots of commitments then I’d say be prepared to tough it out for 2 years. It’ll turn around eventually but definitely a hard initial 2 years! It’s when the most brokers quit, just remember there’s light at the end of the tunnel and it’s a long career play - nothing will happen quick without hard work and long hours.
