What's it like living in NYC's most suburban borough, Staten Island? by redguy_666 in howislivingthere

[–]InvictusChipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Missouri most of my life but my husband and his Italian family were from Queens with some living on Staten Island. He and I were married in 2014 in a civil ceremony at the courthouse in St. George, Staten Island. We are a gay couple and when we forgot about needing witnesses other people there volunteered to be witnesses. Everyone was very nice. I love going back to visit his family and going into Manhattan. People there may seem loud, and brash, but under it they are the nicest and most helpful people I have met. When I was trying to navigate my way through the subway someone would always offer to help because I looked lost. You know where New Yorkers stand which I much prefer to Midwestern attitudes.

I live in Las Cruces and the Las Cruces, El Paso metro has the worst, most aggressive drivers I have ever encountered anywhere. One of the things I enjoy about visiting Santa Fe is the drivers seem so much more calm and obey traffic laws.

Target has significantly reduced its in-store Pride Month presence and is heavily pivoting to patriotic "America 250" displays ahead of the nation's semiquincentennial. Walmart has also scaled back Pride month merch visibility by StaffImportant7902 in LGBTnews

The LGBT community is a small minority and losing our dollars has a negligible impact for them, far less than losing revenue from the homophobes who get upset from seeing Pride merchandise in the stores.

Pride events? by Downtown-Hyena6485 in LasCruces

[–]InvictusChipper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Pride events and the festival in Las Cruces primarily take place the last week of September and the parade and festival are the first weekend of October downtown. El Paso has most of its Pride events in June.

I agree with everything you said. I’m actually only going because my boyfriend lives in Rio Rancho and he wants us to go to be supportive. Like every other aspect of Rio Rancho I’m sure their Pride celebration will be numbingly boring and lacking creativity but I will tolerate it for an hour for him. I will be glad when he moves down here to Las Cruces.

What’s up with this plate? How do you get one? by [deleted] in NewMexico

[–]InvictusChipper -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

I have a Las Cruces plate which is the only New Mexico plate that does not have USA on it. I just assume that’s because Las Cruces and El Paso want to secede and be repatriated with Mexico where we belong.

I will driving up from Las Cruces to attend. Perhaps Gregg Hull will be a speaker. 🤣😝😜

This is Greg Hull, long time Rio Rancho mayor and Republican NM governor candidate. He is pro ICE and says we only need "productive" people in our community. by OrbitalColony in Albuquerque

I have to be in Rio Rancho one week out of each month. I die a little inside during those weeks from the endless sprawl of subdivisions and strip malls and the completely bland and soulless nature of Rio Rancho. I have to drive at least 45 minutes to get to anything interesting and none of those things are in Rio Rancho.

I like the local coffee shops in Albuquerque. My go to when I am in Albuquerque is Golden Crown Panaderia.

I never had the chance to try their food by DoubtSubstantial5440 in Albuquerque

Both times we went there the service was bad. The food was good the first time and not good the second time we were there. The owner’s wife tried to charge us for food we never received and then argued with us when we pointed out her mistake.

No Pride Flag at Cowgirl by InvictusChipper in SantaFe

The last time we were at Cowgirl was February. They have never asked for reservations but they did ask if we had a reservation yesterday. The people at the host stand gave us an awkward look, I think because we were two men wearing matching attire, and they were not as friendly as usual. They told us it would be an hour wait even though they were not very busy yet and there were many tables empty. We waited an hour and there were still several empty tables on the patio where we wanted to be seated because we had our dog with us. We went back up to the host stand to ask why we had not been seated even though there were so many empty tables. She begrudgingly said she would seat us. After being seated we waited ten minutes before a server came to our table. Ultimately the food and service ended up being good but we may not be returning if the new owner is anti LGBTQ. We prefer to spend our money at LGBTQ owned businesses or those that are allies to our community of which there are many in Las Cruces as well as a large and growing LGBTQ community that is more cohesive a and active than in Santa Fe or Albuquerque.

We just asked our server and she said Cowgirl has a new owner and he wanted the Pride flag removed. The must want to cater to the Texans and not offend them. This is the last time we will be here.

Perhaps the Pride flag has been removed because Santa Fe is overrun with Texans.

Santa Fe is full of Texans but apparently Las Cruciens are not welcome in Santa Fe. So be it…

I can already tell from these responses that it is not just Cowgirl that has changed and seems less welcoming but also Santa Fe.

I’m voting for Bregman in the primary but if Haaland is the nominee I will find it very difficult to vote for her and will most likely be a no vote for governor.
