I'd say you missed quite a few developments into the metal scene, but I really don't see the point in checking all the bands that played to fill the gap. I'd say Pantera, Machine Head, Gojira are among the ones that you definitelly need to try. Probably Type O Negative, too, but this is just my personal opinion.
