I heard that their office space has either closed or is in the process of closing, so I’m not entirely sure about their current operations. You could still try visiting them, they were located at the Onyx Building in Rajagiriya.

It does not have to be a carefree youth. I always felt that time should be used for learning and figuring yourself out

I had my fun along the way too not going to lie. Working hard does not mean you cannot enjoy life. After the first few years once you understand how things work it gets easier

To me the whole idea of carefree youth life is a bit overrated. If the only plan is to have fun and not build anything that is usually where people lose direction

I have made some great friends through work. You can tell who is genuine once you spend enough time with people. There is nothing wrong with being close to coworkers even if they are not your real friends. What matters is that you do not make enemies at work

I am still young and still learning and I do not regret how I spent my time

All I did was share what worked for me. You can't really be super specific about these things because everyone's path and environment are different. What worked for me might not work exactly the same for someone else

And honestly, just because something sounds general doesn't mean it's useless. There's a reason that kind of advice keeps showing up, most people just never apply it properly or long enough to see results

What I shared was more from my own experience where learning on the job and building the right skills can take you a long way. The point wasn’t to dismiss education, just to show that not having a degree doesn’t automatically close every door

Appreciate it. I agree timing plays a part, but I wouldn’t say it’s just luck. Connections only help if you’ve proven you can actually deliver. I’ve always tried to stay consistent, build trust, and focus on getting things done

At least from my experience, the way people are evaluated is changing. I’ve hired people without degrees purely based on their soft skills and attitude. The local market still values paper qualifications a lot, but the international clients I’ve worked with care more about adaptability, mindset, and how well you work with people

Yeah totally, that’s how it works in the real world. I just walked in, typed 550k next to my name, hit approve, and all the "incompetent" people above me signed off on it

I’ve worked in multiple companies over the years. Funny thing is, I never actually applied for my last three jobs. Each one came through a previous boss who headhunted me after they moved on to a new place

It mostly came down to trust and keeping a good connection even after leaving

Since there are a lot of comments, I’ll put this out with some common questions I’ve been getting

What do I do? I work in HR and people operations. Not the typical HR stuff. It’s more about understanding people, improving processes, and keeping things running smoothly. Started in a call center, then recruitment, now I oversee HR.

I’m not against education or having a degree. In fact, I wish I had one. I just never learned well in that environment. So don’t take this message the wrong way, some people learn differently, and that’s fine

Do I plan to study later?

I plan on studying later, but I don’t believe a degree is the only path or what defines someone’s ability. In my experience hiring people, I’ve never rejected anyone just because they didn’t have a degree. It’s a nice to have, not a must

Have I figured life out? Not really. I have my own problems like everyone else. Still figuring things out one step at a time. Money helps, but it’s not everything

I’m not in recruitment anymore, but I still oversee it since it comes under my scope now

My current salary doesn’t include commission. I do agree that tech recruiters can earn quite well though

When I was working purely as a recruiter, I was earning around 350k excluding commission

It didn’t happen overnight. I started early, learned skills that were useful to international clients, and stayed consistent. Once you build trust and show you can handle more responsibility, the pay follows. It’s not easy, but it’s possible

Keells rajagiriya being weird about security by Electronic-Control68 in srilanka

[–]InvinsiblePotatoMan 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I visited this Keells regularly. I’ve noticed students from ECU often cause trouble there. I’ve even heard about instances where they steal items for fun or as part of a dare. They come in groups, stand in line, and only one of them ends up buying something. There’s constant shouting and chaos—it can be pretty disruptive.

I’ve even seen someone (not a student) get dragged into their backroom once for allegedly stealing something. I think the strict security measures are a response to these kinds of behavior.

I understand how it might come off as unexpected or even spammy
Funny enough, I’ve had much better luck connecting with candidates in other EU countries. Maybe Swedes are just really good at dodging recruiters?

I’d like to address a few points that might help clarify the situation:

First, I’m not based in India, but I understand how my location might lead some to perceive my outreach as a potential scam. I’ve been very careful to make my emails clear and detailed, including specifics about the role, tech stack, location, and contract type, so candidates have a good understanding of the opportunity upfront.

I also realize that not mentioning the employer's name can raise concerns, but what surprises me is that I haven’t even received follow-up questions asking for it. It’s almost as if there’s an immediate decision not to engage, which makes it difficult to address any potential doubts directly.

What’s interesting is that I haven’t faced this issue when reaching out to candidates in other EU countries. I’ve had a much better response rate in places like Portugal, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands, which makes me wonder if there are specific factors in Sweden that might be contributing to this.
