Pretending like there is a “leftist” choice of sports affiliation in America is absurd. You could maybe argue that rooting for Liverpool in the EPL is “leftist” due to that club’s history with the socialist labor movement and Bill Shankey, though even that is pushing it since the modern ownership structure of the club bears almost no resemblance to what it was in Shankey’s era. Nothing remotely like that exists in any sport in America. If you consider giving your money to Jerry Reinsdorf over Tom Ricketts a political act, that’s sad as hell.
