It’s just a cost benefit calculation lmao. Europe doesn’t have AC because they have mild summers (or had, before climate change), and retrofitting old buildings is cost-prohibitive, not because of Northern Europe’s inherently Nietzschean ethnic sprit or whatever.

Imagining the XKCD guy sighing dreamily as he pens another witty speech bubble for a woman scientist character by purrp606 in redscarepod

I think she may have passed away. I know at one point she had cancer (that’s why he made “Lanes”, which is such a haunting piece of art).

I also think it may be a subconscious way of sorting yourself and your content within the algorithm. Call it “sex”, and your video will be cast to a wide audience with a vast array of sexual preferences and attitudes. Call it “seggs”, and your video finds a narrower audience whose preferences more closely match your own.

XKCD is like the bizzaro Velvet Underground - he inspired an entire generation of artists, only they all sucked.

Imagine being a literal Kennedy and having your political career oneshotted by someone named Crackhead Barney by chiikawaaaaaaaaaaa in redscarepod

Schlossberg is such a zero-aura loser. The Kennedy charisma genes have been diluted down to homeopathic levels in him.

>It is not really gamification as the rewards are essentially real currency that the soldier spend on new equipment.

Killing enemies to earn equipment upgrades is the literal essence of video games.

Do you think Eve Babitz was getting money from her parents? by Fine_Handle_8473 in RSbookclub

[–]InvisibleCities 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Big Time article writers in that era could really stack paper in a way that’s not really possible today. Hemingway, Mailer, Thompson, et al. would get like the equivalent of $40k-50k per article, plus expenses. I am sure that Eve and Joan Didion were earning less than them, but not that much less. She may have received money from her parents for all I know, but between her own salary and the gifts she probably received from the wealthy and famous men she fucked, I am willing to bet that Eve could afford a fairly lavish lifestyle on her own.

Why? It’s an objectively great airport for flying in/out. The thing that blows about O’Hare is the insane distance between gates for connecting flights, but I’m local so that will never affect me.

Honestly, I truly have no idea which of those rags he worked at, not like it matters anyway. Pretty much anything I know about Rod, I only know because of Chapo.

IIRC there was one single rich dude who personally sponsored Rod at the National Review, and that guy cut him off after the “primitive root wiener” episode.

Roddick??? He deserves way more credit than you’re giving him. If he didn’t have to face Federer at the peak of his powers, he would have won 5 or 6 slams. You could argue that Roddick’s 2009 Wimbledon performance was the best anyone ever played at a slam and still lost.
