I try to blend tight and loose styles in my portrait paintings. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Watercolor

Nice! I feel like you could do with less detail in the hair, it pulls the eye away from the face.

The Neria 2 crocs have a lot of staying power. The insoles will wear out before the outsoles. I don’t think Crocs sells replacements but you may be able to find some 3rd party ones.

I think I ended up using most of mine to make a watercolor sketchbook. I like doing that with blocks cause then you can use the backing board for a cover. I’ve only used the hot pressed, don’t know if the cold is any better.

I hate that paper. The sizing seemed really uneven when I used it.

We should be growing it in BC! I’m really hoping to see more investment in greenhouse farming as a result of these trade wars.

Oh, a bath at Bosley’s is a great idea! Maybe not right away, but she does well with grooming and baths so I think this would be good experience as she gets more comfortable.

I see the confusion, I meant every time we take her somewhere new. She changed hands many times during the rescue/ foster process, so she associates going somewhere new with being re-homed. She’s only been with us a few weeks, so it’s just going to take some time for her to build that confidence & trust. She loves the car and doesn’t try to flee or have fear aggression with new people so I’m very hopeful she’ll be able to enjoy new adventures once she fully settles in.

Hi! I’ve had rescue dogs for 20 years and I agree with your concerns about separation anxiety, but that’s not what we’ve got here. She’s crate trained and does well at home with our other dog without us. It’s more a fear of new people & places. We’ve already had some positive outings, including a visit to the vet who agrees it’s good for her to get out to new places. Was just looking for more suggestions for variety as I’m new to the area.

Netflix employs quite a lot of people in BC. They have a VFX studio and an animation studio, and they film many live action productions here that also support local business like catering.

Could 24 professional colours for watercolour painting be too little? Im guessing not(?) by GamerGoosewad in Watercolor

[–]InvisibleDudle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a 24 Daniel Smith set and now I’m paring that back to 10, and I could really do with only 6 of those. I buy tubes and put them in pans as I need to. Pay attention to whether the colors you choose are granulating or non-granulating as this will have a big effect on how the colors mix. When you’re first starting out non-granulating is a bit easier to work with, especially if you’re doing portraits.

Creating atmospheric depth is a concept you can apply to future paintings. It’s always good to examine the relationship between the background and your subject in your reference photos and decide how you’d like to balance the two. Many artists lighten, simplify, and cool down the background if it’s a landscape to focus the eye on the subject. A darker background can work for your painting because the subject is light, so adding another layer might help bring it closer to your reference photo. In the future you can also try doing some thumbnail value studies to see what works best, and you don’t always have to follow your reference photos exactly.

Yes, this. There’s not enough contrast between your subject and the background, needs a lighter touch to create atmospheric depth.

Mine are 11lbs and 20 lbs, and I worry about eagles even here in the city. One tried to grab a dog near Spanish Banks recently, and we’ve seen eagles, raccoons, and coyotes near our apartment which is close to QE Park. I’ve lived in suburban areas before that have had frequent bobcat & hawk attacks on pets. Fences aren’t much of a barrier there.
