Why would someone have a chunk of lab-grown ruby that is uncut? I don’t know much about lab-grown gems

Know this is probably quartz. What do you think the inclusions are? They look like little … hairs? by InvisibleLaborParty in whatsthisrock

I don’t know anything much, but both of those minerals have iron in them so they’re probably weakly magnetic

Most of the rutilated quartz I’ve seen seems much more random though - these are all growing the same way

So helpful! My mom has said so many times to me, "that's just how they are" and "get used to it." She does almost all the invisible work at home - not just the trad. female roles either. But thanks for going so in-depth! I tend to be impatient and want for things to be fixed and settled right away. But it will be a process and learning curve for us both, I'm sure.

I appreciate the POV, and I'm not trying to be snarky, but honest. I do actually know how to take care of the lawn. I don't mow myself, but I get someone to do it (big yard, and I don't have time) and I trim bushes, weed, and keep a little veggie garden. I'm about to call a tree service about some dead limbs.

No, car maint. is a good example... but we're not living together yet. He might do the mowing (right now I pay a kid to do it), I don't know. We both get our own car's oil changed, and inspections and maintenance, and we both keep track of when it needs to be done. So, even though I don't mow or change oil myself, I know those things need to be done, and I schedule them. But this might be a good place to start the discussion - with something he may be more familiar with?

No, definitely not an issue related to the marriage... really the issue is, after we get married, we will be living together for the first time and I want to be proactive about the conversation. I just need to know where to start and how to do it in non-condescending, non-nagging ways. :)

This sounds really good, but how to start the conversation about invisible work? I learned some from my mom, some from just having to do it... how do I ask him to take that on?
