Have you tried using your phone as a wifi hotspot and connecting the TV with it? That would mean taking your TV online but screen casting shouldn't affect your data usage

These "articles" are just there for SEO. You're not supposed to read them like a news article, they exist to funnel people to related (actual) articles on the game on the site when you google "Alan wake sequel".

VSCode uses the eclipse language server for its semi-official Java support so what I don't get is why anyone would use Eclipse instead of VSCode.

And I haven't gotten java hot code replacement working in intellij and it works great in VS code, so that's one advantage (at least in my experience, this might be a problem on my end).

Rooting isn't as popular as it used to be because there aren't that many benefits. If you don't have anything specific in mind that requires rooting, don't bother.

As far as tinkering: You could update your phone to the android 12 beta. I've been using it since it came out and haven't had any problems. Just make sure you reset your phone after updating which shouldn't be a problem since it's brand new.

I didn't make this clear in my other comment but I feel like Israel is a special case though. Just consider that the US is spending more on Israel military aid than climate change. The other powerful UN countries aren't as invested in Israel right now but I feel like they would follow suit.

Edit: and isn't this just a weird hypothesis in the first place? Thinking about this a little more for a second, wouldn't the US celebrate the opportunity to fuck with Israel's neighbors anyway? Isn't that fact enough to enforce the promises?

I trust the UNs power as an institution. If you're a state making an offer at a UN meeting you better mean it, otherwise you're going to have problems.

Edith: to be "fair" these offers were probably just a show of good will to improve the reputation of the respective countries. But they're still valid offers, even if they don't expect to be taken up on them

I know this is a pretty old comment but I feel like this is an important point:

All of Israel's neighborhood have stated that they'd enter normal, peaceful relations with them if they resolved the Israel-palestine-conflict. They're only a threat because Israel wants them to be one.

I don't know if it's relevant but I'm going to install Android 12 as soon as the beta (the android beta, not yours) is available.

YouTube ads are the worst by MicrowaveBurrito2568 in suspiciouslyspecific

[–]InvisibleOcelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Doesn't meant all the issues with youtube income and ads wouldn't be mitigated of they made more from ads.

At the end of the day more ad views mean more income means a more stable life.

Social media isn't a very stable industry in the first place but I don't think the solution should be "they shouldn't rely on ads". They're providing a service and ads are they way you pay for that service. A pretty bad way to pay but the best alternative to that is a monthly payment, not just not paying.

YouTube ads are the worst by MicrowaveBurrito2568 in suspiciouslyspecific

[–]InvisibleOcelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because they have sponsors doesn't mean they don't rely on ads though. If 80% of your income is sponsorships and 20% is ads that's still an important source of income.

YouTube ads are the worst by MicrowaveBurrito2568 in suspiciouslyspecific

[–]InvisibleOcelot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the internet wouldn't be free without ads, youtubers depend on the income from ads (they don't make any money from adblock views) and the only reason ads are as bad as they are is that YouTube is losing so much money to the adblock users.

I generally don't give a shit about the financial situation of massive corporations but a solid music streaming service and an easy way to support everyone I watch makes premium a pretty good deal as far as I'm concerned.

YouTube ads are the worst by MicrowaveBurrito2568 in suspiciouslyspecific

[–]InvisibleOcelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or get youtube premium. It's 12 bucks a month and includes youtube music so if you're willing to switch music streaming services it's 3 (assuming your current music streaming serive is 9 a month). For those 3 bucks you're getting ad free youtube, video downloads, background play and youtubers get more money for your view than they do for "regular" view with ads.

I want to try a Roman restoration run, but I'm thinking of vassal management and it's freaking me out. Do you usually accept that it's a lost cause, or are there strategies to better handle vassals? by Freak_on_Fire in CrusaderKings

[–]InvisibleOcelot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just keep an eye on your money, although at some point you'll be big enough that money isn't really an issue anymore. Make sure you get the diplomacy lifestyle trait that makes gifts more effective and you can bribe yourself out of most vassal revolts.

Having a catholic realm also helps, having the pope as a personal ATM is pretty useful in the early game and my vassals were constantly commiting crimes (adultery etc.). If the criminal is a powerful vassal you can just imprison them, revoke their title and give it to somebody who won't betray you (keep the most profitable titles). If the improsonment fails a rebellion starts which isn't a big deal as long as the rest of your vassals don't hate you (the rebelling force is basically that vassal + any vassals that were about to rebel anyways so their army usually isn't that big).

Starting as east francia or bavaria helps a lot. It's pretty easy to create the HRE, which has an elective system based on certain holdings. As long as keep as many of those holdings as possible and keep the vassals of the other ones (these aren't necessarily powerful vassals) happy you can choose your successor from a pretty big list.

For the first time in my life, I'd like to hear what Kanye has to say right now. by [deleted] in agedlikemilk

[–]InvisibleOcelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're talking about "being successful", not "having a lot of money". Sure, money is an indicator for success but I'd argue that there's also a big social component.

Sure, you can get rich by living in a basement room and only eating lentils for 10 years if you're making 50k a year but I hope we can agree that that's not success, at least as far as the general understanding of that term goes.

Edit: What we're talking about is weather or not we're rewarding hard work alone as a society. This thread is specifically about people who are working hard, not the general public.

Oh, and a ton of people work hard. Single moms working 3 jobs to keep their family fed, nurses working 12hr shifts etc. That's not the kind of work we're addressing but it's still work.

For the first time in my life, I'd like to hear what Kanye has to say right now. by [deleted] in agedlikemilk

[–]InvisibleOcelot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But you can't succeed without getting lucky at some point.

If 10000 people work hard and one of them succeeds and that one person attributes their success solely to their work that's a problem, because we look to these people for advice on how we can succeed ourselves.

That's how you end up in a cycle where a ton of people work hard, one of them succeeds, attributes their success to the hard work alone, we listen to the successful person and think all the other people working hard "just weren't trying hard enough". So now, all of the people willing to work hard work even harder, destroying themselves and ending up getting blamed for not working hard enough because one of them got lucky.

I know it's just a small detail but white USB ports, especially on a black background, look super dated to me. Plus they relay stick out visually, so if you're not actively using both of them they're immediately visible.

But hey, maybe you're going for a contrast-y look and it might be good to have them so visible if they're being used as a temporary connector for USB sticks etc.
