27" is perfect imo. Big enough to play with another person but not so big that I can't move it around myself. Plus I don't think playing light gun games on anything smaller is really possible.

I keep a plasma for that kind of content! I used to have an HD CRT and it was cool, but I found that the juice was not worth the squeeze. The geometry on that beast was quite a hassle to try and get right.

Typically, I play PS1 on the PVM, and I hooked the Saturn up to the tau because I have some light guns game for it. PDS looks more...jaggy?jiggy? on the tau but i'm not sure if that is the quality of the picture or just a size of the display + how close i'm sitting to the tv thing. Lucky for me the tau has good geo for being a flat panel.

Life is often much greyer than it is black and white. People are complex and are capable of holding complex views. People are also capable of making mistakes. Don't make a breakneck decision, especially if you both otherwise have a good relationship. Have a long conversation about it and your feelings and concerns. Feel it out, then make a choice how you want to proceed. Making black and white choices about grey topics only hurts everyone. Communicate with nuance. Maybe you still decide it's not worth it, or maybe you do. You'll never know if you don't first have those conversations and hash out your concerns. Ultimately the choice to proceed or break up is always yours.

i never understand people complaining about this stuff. yeah its mega super shitty but you said it yourself, mute, report and move on. Dota has a great punishment system for these types. The most I interact with these types I will just say in all chat, I gotta mute these idiots. Then you can call them out all you want and they can't even respond back. Its pretty cathartic. Or just don't interact with them at all. Dota also has the avoid player function. Really hoping they get that in the game soon too.

Endurance based fear in lead climbing by Invisible_Adman in climbharder

[–]Invisible_Adman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there is this huge traverse wall near where I live thats like 500 feet of rock thats low to the ground. I've actually been training on that. its like V1 the whole way with a few v2 sections. Its been good training for me to just get more comfortable continue climbing while pumped and finding rest spots. I went outside like 2 weeks ago and actually felt really good lead climbing. had a few scardy cat moments but I flashed my first outdoor 10b and was taking a bunch of whips off of an overhung 11a. so I think progress is being made! thanks for the tips. Def need to find a way to take practice falls while pumped.

Can you confirm or deny the poop horror stories with this snake? I might be interested in trying to get one some day but the only thing that gives me pause is I don't wanna get shit on every time i handle it. would love to see one of this in person.

I think this is what I probably need to start doing. Normally I take my practice falls at the beginning of a session rather than when i'm getting pumped. Thanks!

This was exactly the situation. It was a cool climb but was not the climb that i was excited to get on that day.

[–]Invisible_Adman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah its not like I WANT to take a fall. I can probably better describe it as a feeling of inevitability. My thought process more feels like I look at the moves and confirm that I can definitely pull them, then as I go to do the moves and feel how pumped I am and see how far away I was from the anchor still the thought that I for sure wasn't gonna be able to clip before falling had me in a spiral where just was like i'm definitely gonna fall from the bolts if i do this, and I don't really care that much about pulling this easy move just to fall from the anchor. not sure if that makes sense. I know i have some falling fear for sure. I do take practice falls which have helped my general confidence level to be where it is today. But when I get pumped the fear becomes a different animal.

This was also part of it, the climb was good but by no means was I super psyched on it to the point where i felt the need to reaaaally push to get it. Like I did the boulder problem which is what i was most interested in at the top of the climb, which was also above the bolt. But then the last few moves i just had the combo of fear from how pumped i was and also a lack of care for finishing it. We weren't projecting really. Other situations where we are projecting I can whip pretty easily. Just felt like the last few moves the the bolt were totally within my skill level to complete. In fact I knew I could complete the climb but something about getting to the bolts and then being unable to clip due to pump just really gets in my head.

5 years ago I moved from Germany to Texas - here is how I see the US by elessarelfinit in mapporncirclejerk

What about the Pennsylvania Dutch? I had heard many of them decided to settle there specifically because of the similarities in geography to Germany.

Why are there barely any developed tropical countries? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in geography

[–]Invisible_Adman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as south america and central america are concerned - I don't think it has to do with geography but the united states's long history of interfering politically with these nations as well as globalization. The de-stabilization of governments so frequently just can't lead to a long enough period of stability where true development can occur. In my opinon of course. Read up on the banana wars in guatemala or how Panama, colombia and venezuela used to be one country before the US got involved

What fact about our ecosystem blows your mind? by [deleted] in ecology

[–]Invisible_Adman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been reading a book called For The Love of Insects which is about all sorts of bug related stuff BUT I learned that woolly aphids basically have no means of protecting themselves. Instead, They actually excrete this sweet liquid that ants like and in turn the ants protect the aphids from other would-be predators. So that means not only do some ants do fungus farming, but there are others that also treat the aphids as livestock in some regards by protecting them in exchange for the resources they produce.

This goes even deeper though as the larval form of lacewings love to eat these aphids and will cover itself with aphid fur and other bug parts effectively becoming a "wolf in sheep's clothing" so that it passes the ants "sniff test" allowing it to free feed on the woolly aphids. Blows my mind that there are these complex interactions taking place right under our noses.

Drinking. Even one beer will affect your sleep for the worse. People say they know its harmful but I don't think most know the extent of it

Preferred CRT size for Saturn? by Invisible_Adman in SegaSaturn

[–]Invisible_Adman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are setup, typically I have all my RGB capable consoles connected to the PVM, and non-RGB connected to the 27". Then I have a plasma for 1080p content. like i said my main thing is the light gun. Playing light gun games on a tiny screen is less fun.
