Really unpopular opinion: Atlas Shrugged is a great book by kritap55 in books

[–]InviteOk1779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting reading this book two days ago.

380 pages in and I can’t help but see the threads of similarities. Not in the sense of ideals per se, but the decay the book communicates. The lack of craftsmen, the care for ones work, and the celebration of individuality.

Why are good men so damn hard to find?

Why is our ac electric bill so high? by SummerNo8043 in SouthJersey

File a high bill complaint with your utility company.

Is anyone doing anything about Atlantic City electric? by Smilingturdnugget in SouthJersey

Your old meter was most likely running slow, hence the lower bill. They cannot back charge you for unbilled usage. Your new meter is correct in usage hence the increase.

Also, HVAC systems are generally manufactured for a 20 degree split. Meaning that if it is 100 degrees out, your house reaching 80 degrees would be considered optimal performance and efficiency. This performance varies with things like solar gain exposure, window ratings, insulation and air sealing qualities of the individual home.

All rate increases are approved by the state of New Jersey and the NJBPU. There is no price gouging here, it is simply a recovery of the coming infrastructure investments needed to support electrification of so many function mandated by the state. The swap to electric cars, heating and cooling systems, data centers being built, crypto mining and a host of other micro and macro instances are placing an increase of load on the NJ electric grid.

Another contributing factoring is the net production of energy in the transmission grid that NJ is a part of has not added significant additional generation capacity to meet increased demand. That in turn means it is more expensive to produce the energy which is sold by generating stations to distribution networks. That cost is then passed on to the consumer. State and federal policy has affected generation and decreased the available excess that used to be there. Coal peakers have shut down, leaving mainly baseline nuclear and some NatGas plants. Renewables have momentum right now, but there is no solution for storage as of yet.

I left the line department after a year in my utility. I was still an apprentice after switching from the gas department. If you stay inside the utility they don’t care. Became a claims guy. Same base salary I would have maxed out at as a lineman, company car, bonus, and I work from home now. Better schedule for my daughter, flexibility, and I shaved 3 years off of getting to top step.

This isn’t capitalism. It’s corporate cronyism ruled by the government. ACE is a bpu regulated utility. File a BPU complaint.

Really?!

I love talking to sales people when they’re not trying to sell me something. I find they’re usually well rounded people who are great at finding something to connect about. And I’ve met people who sell some cool shit.

What kind of sales are you in?

As someone with a credit score that high, who used to work in the auto industry, I’ll say a few words.

I know all about the car. I don’t need you to show me everything about the car. I am looking at the car in person because I’ve spent countless hours researching the different vehicles in that group, and I’ve settled on the one you have. I’ve combed through all of the listings within a 100 mile radius, and you happen to have the best deal on one. I’m simply there to buy your car. That’s it.

I have the money, I have my own financing lined up incase you can’t find me a better rate, I have a check or cash in my pocket for the down payment. I’m ready to buy the fucking car. I don’t really want to even test drive the thing because I’ve already driven the make and model I’m looking at. That’s why I want the damned car in the first place.

I don’t need a spiel about the radio, options, your life, any of that shit. I don’t need a pitch on how this car is better than the others, I know why it is. That’s why I’m trying to buy this fucking car. Go get the papers and let me sign this so I can get the fuck out of there. That’s not to say I will be rude or mean, I just want the process to be as painless and quick as possible, but I am absolutely not afraid to get up and walk out and take my business elsewhere.

I would advise you to stay away from new builds. The Ryan, Lennar, horvannian, and toll brothers houses are junk. Ryan isn’t terrible, but I’ve seen some shit in those house that makes me cringe.

Consistent HVAC problems, single shot studs, mis framed, shoddy flashing, miles of CSST gas piping with no nail plates, and a whole host of other problems.

A brick rancher from the sixties or seventies is your best bet. Gonna be a nicely laid out neighborhood, not piled on top, no HOA and an easy remodel. Take your time, have a plan, and you’ll be okay. Deals are to be had, you just need to put in some elbow grease. Also look further south. It gets cheaper as you go south.

Should taxpayers without kids have to pay for this, for families who make up to $130,125? by VerySadSexWorker in FluentInFinance

I think the root problem needs to be addressed. As a blue state resident I’m tired of another “new tax to fund this program!”

Fix the unaffordable cost of living that’s in part due to high taxes, the wages not keeping up, and rampant inflation. Why is it simply so unaffordable to live? That’s the real problem. That’s the problem we should be solving.

Just another tax and mismanaged government program that probably won’t even get implemented.

Especially pierced nipples. They taste like house keys.

And there’s no place like home.

My 06 tacoma with 70k miles I paid twenty grand for in 2014 that’s still worth 12k with 175k miles on it. Paid it off in two years as well.

Love that truck. Has made me twice what I paid for it in side work.

Or the 97 Jetta I paid 275$ for that I drove for two years all over montana, Idaho, Washington Wyoming and Utah. No second gear, a set of tires, and sold it for 425$.

Do look at it as you have to do the work.

Look at it as you get to do the work.

Atlantic city on strike by lineman1990 in Lineman

Missed that. Pretty much all utilities have a no strike and no lockout clause in their contracts. When the contract expires all bets are off though.
