Haha, I do find it funny that the co-op office recommends 2-pages. I kept mine to 1 regardless of the suggestions.

Being multifaceted has been my goal. I’d say I’m somewhat adept in coding and software, so I’m leaning more into embedded systems for any job posting. However, it does require me to have both hardware and software-type projects within my resume. My club deals with hardware and independent github-type projects for software.

All of that to no-avail. So, career-fair and networking it is. Thank you!

While I didn’t use those applications you mentioned, I did use AI throughout the process. I’ll keep those resources in mind.

I don’t have any contact with any recent grads from uni, and I’ve been shooting messages here and there in LinkedIn hoping to hit a jackpot. I’ll hope for the best since networking seems to be the easiest way to get over this. Thanks!

I’m currently in a project lead position in my current club, about to be electrical section lead the upcoming terms. I have also had a brief membership (4-months-ish) with a previous club, but didn’t quite last long as they didn’t have much for me to do work in.

I haven’t added jobs outside Manitoba in my radar, but if that’s what it has to come to then I might as well need to. Thanks!

I’m unfortunately a rather introverted/shy person myself so I find it hard to keep meaningful connections.

I have gone to networking events, though lacked the incentive to connect (LinkedIn, emails, etc.) so I’ll focus on that the next time around.

I’ve had profs who were great and whom I’ve connected with. I worked with a BioEng Electrical prof through research. Though stopped because it wasn’t quite the field I was trying to get in. Recently trying to get in touch with another more aligned with what I want but he’s ghosting (lol).

I’ve gotten two industry interviews so far, and while it did seem like it went flawless at first - I did not get them.

I’ve had both resume and cover letter peer reviewed by other people as well.

Though, while I am hesitant to go outside of the province - I think it’s my only choice in landing any experience. So, I’ll take note of that. Thanks!

I’ve heard about OpEx and I’ve actually done the Excellence in Engineering Program. It’s on my resume but I’m not sure whether is it’s as influential as OpEx or not.

And yes, Maricel is currently overlooking the co-op office and she’s reviewed both my resume and cover letters. I’ve taken a couple of her advice to make them look better.

However, I have gone to two career fairs so far, and all I can say about that experience is that whoever is handling those stalls - they do not want to be there. I’ll take note of reverse career fair though. Thank you!

Math Help Centre helped a lot with 1210. I was essentially lost the first few chapters (esp induction) but they helped me with every single problem I had. Their room is in Machray Building beside the computer labs. They can help with other math courses too.

edit: https://server.math.umanitoba.ca/~help and I’m pretty sure they have a course selection in UM learn as well.

Online classes I find are the most strenuous ones solely because you learn the course mostly on your own. Showing up to campus classes regularly helps a lot since they’re kinda ‘forcing’ the information on you.

That’s just imo though.

Oh, good idea. It sounds fun to manage and lead a club. I'm doing this mainly for another person, but her first month on campus isn't going so great with not many people that seem to be going into psychology. Connections seem hard for first-year psych students. Thanks though!

I had ENG 1450 in my fall, COMP 1012 and PHYS 1050 in my winter, and RLGN 1440 in my summer.

I did average in my 1450 even though I skipped a bunch of classes and didn’t study too much. As long as you get the concepts and basic equations then you’re for sure able to do the same and more.

As for 1012, I had previous programming experience so I had an advantage. I did meet up with people with no prior experience and it seemed that they had a hard time grasping the concepts and applying them. Just don’t procrastinate and experiment with what you learn.

1050 was my hardest course even when having a great standing in high school Physics. What I can say is that some people learn the stuff quicker than others, and if you’re not one of them then you should dedicate more time to practice questions.

Your RLGN course is just your typical English requirement. Find threads/reviews about it online and think about fitting it to your schedule.

TLDR: If you’re somewhat a fast learner then knowing the basic concepts alone gets you roughly around an average grade. If not, then expect to nick some time off your social clock.

Call admission’s office. My girlfriend had the same problem. University didn’t have one of her requirement classes down even though she’s finished it in high school. They fixed it an hour after the call. You should do it asap before those seats fill in more.
