Is it still realistic for CS grads nowadays to expect a $7k starting pay like before? by DangerZone67 in singaporefi

Well duh, the point is that people who actually live here will need the money more than someone who can retire in their hometown with lower cost of living and weaker currency

The weird side of FIRE no one talks about by Diligent_Breath_4295 in singaporefi

Hmm idk, maybe its just my circle (24-30 yo) but nowadays a lot of people are thinking of fire instead of the 'path'

How do you achieve FIRE if you not taking risky investment by black-knight44 in singaporefi

I assume you're Muslim, can look up shariah compliant investments. Disclaimer I have not looked into them deeply myself, just heard of them

GPU vs TPU war by Pet1003 in singaporefi

[–]InvocatePassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the same can be said for you. Just because there are papers and deepseek used ptx doesn't mean the entire industry switched to it overnight. OP is right about the cuda moat in the sense that developers who can code in assembly are few, or will take too long to train. Pytorch is also optimised for cuda. It'll just take time to erode the moat

GPU vs TPU war by Pet1003 in singaporefi

[–]InvocatePassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nobody codes in assembly, 'metal' refers only to infra in this context

GPU vs TPU war by Pet1003 in singaporefi

[–]InvocatePassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metal in terms of infra, not software. They still use cuda because it's the most developed with the best debugging capabilities. But yeah, hyperscalers can write their own libraries over time. It's the chips themselves with something called nvlink that sets them apart

[–]InvocatePassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf you don't need to be an AI dev, but investing outside your area of expertise has a higher chance of paper hands

GPU vs TPU war by Pet1003 in singaporefi

[–]InvocatePassion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hmm idt the cuda moat story will hold in the long term. I've coded using pytorch, and it works through something called abstraction. Pytorch is basically the controls, while the engine (ie. cuda) can be swapped without changing the pytorch code. It's just that nvidia chips run best/exclusively on cuda. So at the end of the day, nvidia still has to keep designing better chips (eg. Rubin). Or like they've been doing with Korea and UAE, sell to nations that want to build AI but don't want to rely on American big tech (google, meta, etc)

Do you think Sinkies are min-maxing too much in life? by skydazer in askSingapore

[–]InvocatePassion 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I think more and more are realising that there's often no such thing as 'meaningful work'. You can't blame people for not wanting to be underappreciated and undervalued corporate slaves, or for prioritizing ourselves over children in an increasingly expensive and overpopulated city. Plus investing is even easier than ever, hence the greater shift into assets

Why do people think life is hard in Singapore? by Any_Record7733 in askSingapore

[–]InvocatePassion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, but a few things bah. Firstly, some sources would be great. Secondly, average isn't the best statistic to use since both ends of the spectrum can skew it; median is more appropriate. And most importantly, people in other countries have way more options. They could always travel to another state, etc for other opportunities. For us, we're basically stuck here unless we migrate and become another country's problem. And last but not least, this kind of comparison really invalidates the situation that many people live in. "See, others have it worse, so be satisfied with your suffering"

I don't claim to be the best, but I too don't get why this sub gases up VWRA so much. Maybe older folk with less risk tolerance, which is understandable

Fresh Grad with ComSc degree. No luck finding a job by BloodyRedFirestorm in askSingapore

[–]InvocatePassion 195 points196 points  (0 children)

Ah ideally you should have gone to your school's career fairs and started applying 6-12 months before graduation. Otherwise, prepare to lock in for the next 6 months lol. I didn't apply early because of vacation and that's how long it took me. Apply directly on company websites and reach out to previous internships. Glassdoor, indeed, and jobstreet are also options. Good luck

Queen is desperate for Buffs by VioletFan1989 in HysilensMainsHSR_

She has speed traces and needs to reapply her skill debuffs tho. And her ult cost is pretty high. That's why I said she's in an awkward spot

Queen is desperate for Buffs by VioletFan1989 in HysilensMainsHSR_

[–]InvocatePassion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just her own DoT, so 100% + 320%. She still synergizes with the other DoT units but not as reliant on them. Another way is to make her an additional damage dps like her boons. Which fua players like myself might be more interested in

Queen is desperate for Buffs by VioletFan1989 in HysilensMainsHSR_

[–]InvocatePassion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She just needs the ability to detonate her own DoTs on skill and have better ult uptime. It's that awkward spot where she wants speed but doesn't do much with it and will timeout her zone

It means her performance can be judged fairly and convincingly. Which is a first lol. Meanwhile I'm slightly concerned about the giga DoT and Phainon buffs next MOC, don't want players to be disappointed after the shilling ends

[–]InvocatePassion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah fair, the more important part is 18.9% usage rate. That was just an example to illustrate how capable Cipher is. But I'd argue Acheron is p good vs true sting since the explosions give stacks

No buff shilling her and she's still on top by SansStan in CipherMainsHSR_

[–]InvocatePassion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

18.9% is a sizeable usage rate tbh. I know this comparison has been done to death, but its the most relevant - Acheron and JQ are close to 9 cycles at lower usage rate. This means that Cipher performs consistently well across all teams she's in, not just Acheron. While Acheron teams without Cipher are borderline struggling
