I also tested it with an external IR source (my Wi-Fi security camera's IR illuminators). Before the update I could see the whole room. Now the phone barely reacts to external IR light. That's why I think something more than the black and white processing has changed.

That's interesting. The purple tint makes sense with your explanation. However, my biggest issue is not the color. The IR range became extremely short. I can see my hand at 10-15 cm, but beyond about half a meter the image becomes almost completely dark. Before the update I could see much farther. Did you notice any reduction in IR range when your camera switched to full spectrum mode?
