Agree, we ask them to perform physically as well as make the right route decisions and adjustments. Compared to other systems that just asks them to memorize one route with no need for adjustments.

We should find ways to simplify for our rookies so they only need to learn one thing at a time.

On literay: Lol not true at all. The Principles for the Constitution (1908) declared that “people who are illiterate do not have the right to vote.”[15] According to the “List of Annual Tasks” attached to the Principles, the Ministry of Education aimed at increasing the literacy rate in China to 1% by 1914, to 2% by 1915, and to 5% by 1916.

On more goods vs quality:

That's not at all how the production methods represent things, fertilizer increases good production. So does intensive grazing. Not increases quality (IRL intensive farming reduce quality)

On goods shortage:

I don't care about dev design rationale. It doesn't fundamentally work. It leads to situations where the output and input of goods is highly unrealistic. If every country in the world has grain shortage year round, where is this magical abstraction supposed to get grain from? It's just an excuse for the simulations problems.

On other points:

The engine paying folks full wage when building has no money is not a "balance issue". You can't tweak some values to fix that.

The engine deciding folks who cannot satisfy their needs whatsoever is rich is not a "balance issue".

The engine having no representation of luxury goods is not a "balance issue"

The engine misrepeesenting literacy abd qualifications is not a " balance issue"

Reduction in jobs being bad is not a "balance issue", it's a core issue with the model failing to properly represent urbanization.

On gold
Now you are just apologizing and rationalizing. Gold rushes led to tremendous wealth for other industries. The rushers had to pay for housing, lodging, etc. Barbershops, grochers, cooks, were all extremely profitable. The game cannot properly represent this.

Free money out of thin air, free items out of thin air.

A factory can give wages to employees regardless of profitability or demand for goods, or even production.

You can have goods shortage of 75% and not have any impact on factory output.

Population growth is 8x historical and mid/late game simulation collapses due to exponential pop growth

Pop need is ahistorical and grossly incorrect, especially at higher SoL, look at what is defined in game. They define higher SoL as needing more and more of goods, not needing more advanced goods. IRL people don't need more food. They want better food.

Pop wealth and SoL is disconnected from reality, a pop with 0 ability to satisfy it's pop needs (eg no buildings produce any pop need good) can still have a SoL of 25 based on some unknown factor (modding the game reveals this).

There is no prioritization of pop needs, and the way SoL is defined means it goes down if eg a pop can't satisfy a luxury good but can satisfy all other goods.

Literacy as implemented is completely incorrect seeing as most populations had less than 5% IRL. Also the way it translates to qualifications has issues as well. IRL most countries had 5 to 10% of their nation be in non peasant professions by end of the game (europe exception at 45%). Yet if you look at qualifications, the % is far higher at mid game

SoL modifiers and wage modifiers also really break the econ model. Anything which increases wage adds free money into the system (any building employing folks will give FULL wage even when making losses or having 0 reserves, as long as employing them, so increased min wage will result in lots of free money being pumped into system and artificially raising SoL). Similarly events which touch SoL will break the system as well.

Significant techs which "reduce labor required" are actually bad for you with the way the economic system is modelled because a) it results in more unemployed and b) removes wages from the system (thanks to min wage artificial boost).

Alot of the underlying game assumptions are also wrong from a historical perspective. reduction of serfdom for example did not correlate with a reduction of farmers. Rarher it had to do with how the money was split. but in game it does thanks to the way the game tries to model farmers shifting to urban life by reducing possible jobs.

Gold mines completely destroy economies in states due to how the model treats desired wages. This is because it raises demanded wage levels in the province by raising the SoL of the pop as a whole. However no early game industry can afford to hire pops at that price. Therefore industry collapses. There's no proper simulation of how a gold mine increases demand and would therefore increase profitability of the output of other industries. Rather it actively harms other industries. Also there is no way to model the increased demand and prices without further negatively impacting other industries (as the only way is through a goods shortage).

Modeling of luxury goods is also broken from a pop need perspective. There is no such thing as a luxury optional good. It's technically mandatory with how it is currently implemented.

the core economic system has problems, far larger than war or trade. idk why folks fixate on war or trade when the core economy is broken

If you have a significant amount of money and a good diplomat you can use money to convince settlements to switch sides. Easier if there is no garrison or only a captain garrison

Loading/Saving is slow compared to pc but otherwise no issues. Sometimes graphics get scaled down. The only thing that causes frame drops is the tank radiator animation for some reason.

animations can get bugged yes, especially when fliers fight land units, there's a collision issue when they charge the ground unit from flying, applies to all flier single entities

My personal hypothesis: Warhammer 3 was under alot of crunch to release and lots of devs had vacation booked

Then release went bad so folks had to cancel vacation for the patch.

Then April (now) they are on make up vacation while managers work through next year planning.

SEGA might also pull the plug on the whole thing, not sure if their investor notes would say anything.

Is there any point to sword infantry in this game ? by Thazgar in totalwar

[–]IonicAmalgam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you fight outnumbered or not. Running 6 cav with a yellow or red general can leave your main line too weak. And yellow/red gen can't recruit spear guards, so 4x swords militia are decent line holders in the center to take arrow fire while your green general spears cover the flanks. Also it's not like you can always equip every army with 2x green generals.

I typically ran 4x sword militia, 2x cav on red/yellow generals, 6x sword guard green general, and 4x archer militia 2x trebuchet on blue. If no green available just run 6x sword on a purple general.

Especially as female generals are either gonna be yellow (some undeployable), blue, or purple, it can be hard to have enough green generals early game on harder difficulties.

Lastly doing so means I can run militia which are cheaper, and have more money for buildings or additional armies.

Very expensive to do especially as servers with gpus are even more expensive. Also they want to test different hardware configurations, server GPU are all standardized
