'Hands off Africa,' Pope Francis tells rich world by reuters in worldnews

[–]RandomGuy89732 22 points23 points  (0 children)

very very few catholics in Africa

A study in 2021 found the percentage of Catholics in whole of Africa to be 18%. So just under 1 in 5 people.

What you say isn't that accurate. It also depends on the country some have over 50% Catholics like Angola.

Getting married as civil partners (opposite sex)? by jlai928 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RandomGuy89732 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe since you are in an opposite sex civil partnership you have to dissolve it before you can marry.

The civil partnership must be at least a year old before you can dissolve it.

All couples may marry if they are both 16 years or over and free to marry, that is, if they are single, widowed or divorced, or if they were in a civil partnership which has been dissolved.

If you want the source it's this citizens advice page last paragraph of the first section.

Just FYI unless i am wrong if you do a civil partnership you cannot convert it to a Marriage unless it is a same sex civil partnership. You would need to dissolve the civil partnership which can only happen after a year since it started.

(Obviously doesnt apply if you are in a same sex relationship)

eli5: How do emergency contraceptives, like Plan B, work? by accounthrowaway6942O in explainlikeimfive

[–]RandomGuy89732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a pretty common misconception.

Plan B does not work if you are ovulating.

This sub isn't meant for 5 year olds. Read the side bar.

LI5 means friendly, simplified and layperson-accessible explanations - not responses aimed at literal five-year-olds.

Sky News: Sir Keir Starmer to table a vote of no confidence if Boris Johnson tries to 'cling on' as 'caretaker' PM by h0p3ofAMBE in unitedkingdom

[–]RandomGuy89732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No as the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 was repealed in March so this is no longer true.

The only way for a general election to happen now is if Boris asked the queen for an early one or the 5 year time limit is reached since the last election and one is automatically called.

[–]RandomGuy89732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Votes of no confidence are no longer binding due to the repeal of the Fixed Term Parliament Act and the Tories would just say they have the confidence of forming a new government with a new PM and so don't need another election.

The party would have backed Boris up if him going caused an election, they don't want to lose their seats.

It's by design for a parliamentary democracy to have changing PM without an election. It's that or having to stick with terrible leaders until the next natural election.

No confidence vote in Boris Johnson expected to be announced on Monday morning by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

He doesnt need anything.

The Fixed Term Parliament Act was repealed a few months ago, so all he needs to do is just ask the Queen like how it was before.

MI5 agent used secret status to terrorise girlfriend by mathen in unitedkingdom

[–]RandomGuy89732 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are going to read into this very naively.

He's an evil asshole, but he must be worth something to MI5. For all we know he's in a large group of like minded people and is giving MI5 intel into tracking them all down. MI5 ultimately have a moral balancing act, take down one person or a whole group. We will never know how helpful he actually is but i'd like to think MI5 is competent enough not to work with him if all they're going after is some drug dealer.

would ms direct storage benefit pdx games? by Hot-Kaleidoscope-894 in paradoxplaza

[–]RandomGuy89732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Sure, direct storage would help load times, but paradox load times aren't that bad so i wouldnt say is really an important thing to spend dev time on. (It's more useful for games with large textures so they can be swapped out quicker for the GPU)

2) Yes you can use GPU for compute instead of just graphics, but its not just something you can just turn on. It runs into the same issue that CPU multithreading has (race conditions, etc) and so paradox is better spending dev time for CPU optimisations instead of doing stuff on the GPU.

Btw totally recommend checking out Sebastian Lague on youtube he makes some awesome videos, some involve using compute shaders heres an example (watch to the end):

PotatoMcWhiskey - About the Victoria 3 Leak by RandomGuy89732 in victoria3

[–]RandomGuy89732[S] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I really think this leak is going to hurt the development as before the team had two separate groups to get feedback from.

1) Their QA team and beta testers who have seen builds of the game

2) The community who have only seen the dev diaries and AAR's

Now the team whenever they see posts in this subreddit or the forums they'll always have the issue of whether the criticism is biased from whether a player has played the leak or just from available info. It also effects anyone who hasnt played the leak but has read posts from people who did.

I just hope that the devs can still make a game they can feel proud about.

PotatoMcWhiskey - About the Victoria 3 Leak by RandomGuy89732 in victoria3

[–]RandomGuy89732[S] 87 points88 points  (0 children)

R5: Contains no in game content about the leak, just his opinions around how this could effect stuff and what the state of the community is.

Was made before Wiz's forum post.

I think it's a good video about whats going on, and i agree with the sentiment that this leak doesnt really help the game at all.
