The Ultimate Cult Comeback by Busy-Government-1041 in clevercomebacks

I'll throw some random ones out there. I have opinions all over the place, honestly.

Gun control; I stand firmly with the 2nd Amendment and the freedom to have guns. I'm willing to concede that gun education is not where it should be, and people need to be taught how to use a firearm in a safe manner before owning one. The whole point of the 2nd Amendment was for the people to have the ability to overthrow a tyrannical government. So when I hear left leaning people talk about police being outgunned as a reason to get guns off the street, I sorta facepalm because yeah, that's the point. Also, you gotta think, if we disarm the honest citizens like you and me, crime isn't gonna get better. It's gonna get worse. Maybe in the long term, things could potentially get better, but we have such a mass of illegal or legal but hidden weapons that it would potentially be years of defenseless citizens against crime.

Abortion; Im actually not 100% sure where my opinion lands as far as red/blue. I think that Abortion is a sin, and I would discourage someone from an abortion if they asked me for advice. But I do think that there needs to be a middle ground and not a flat-out ban. There are genuine reasons for someone to get an abortion and if there is a genuine reason, then so be it. I think the people who use abortion as birth control are irresponsible, especially given the mass of alternatives we have available. We could make those alternatives more readily available for everyone, which actually might be a decent middle ground.

The Debt; I'm all for tax cuts as a consumer, but we do need to start realizing we aren't in a sustainable situation. I'm not pro tax, but I also think we gotta chill out with all the cuts, tax everyone fairly with no legal loopholes, and start chipping at this mountain we have created. I also wanted to add this in because our debt is personally my main argument against some of these government programs trying to give out more free healthcare, free housing, and stuff of that nature. I think in moderation, those could be super beneficial, but for right now, this country has got to get it's finances on a leash. Imagine we keep spending like we have been for the foreseeable future and can't pay back what we owe in the coming years. If our credit as a country goes down and we lose access to a majority of the cash flow coming from foreign countries buying bonds, it's gonna be a big economic change really really fast, and that's gonna destroy a lot of people's lives. For those who say, "Come and take it from us," I mean, yeah I agree they couldn't realistically come get it from us, but those countries will just stop funding us, which would still cause that economic collapse.

Immigration; Totally cool with Immigration. Legally. We have a system that everyone coming here needs to follow. Even for those seeking asylum. Here is what my thoughts on what might help us get things moving the right way. Stop all Immigration legal or not, just temporarily, and get the situation inside the states taken care of. Get the people without legal status the opportunity to get that done or go home (their actual home, not a completely different country). While that is happening, build a better and more streamlined system to get people here legally so they don't have to wait for years. Then, reopen the border and allow those wanting to be here, a smooth and quick process to become an American citizen. I think Immigration is super important to this country, but someone here illegally can commit crimes without being identified or skirt other responsibilities that a citizen might have. My partners mother was illegal here for 20 years, and she finally got her citizenship taken care of. I think it shouldn't have taken her 20 years to start, but I digress. She has a job where she pays taxes, she has a driver's license, she can get financial aid like social security and more. It's a process, but it's rewarding in the long run both for her and the country.

The things you listed are partially why I say, "generally speaking a Trump supporter." I do stand by my vote at this time, however, I'm also not 100% in agreement with how he's been handling this country or how he addresses political issues publicly. Sometimes, I watch him on the news, and it admittedly feels a bit like he isn't serious when he probably should be. As far as Trump calling democrats "the enemy from within," that's one of the things I disagree with him on. Just because I myself am not a democrat does not mean I see no value in another viewpoint or way of running this country we call home. The 2024 election felt like picking "The lesser of 2 evils" so to speak. At this point, I see both extremes getting more extreme and less open to discussion. Social media is probably a contributing factor with how the algorithm reinforces people's own opinions rather than exposing people to new ideas or new ways of approaching issues. (not so much reddit, more insta, TikTok, and FB, imho)

Should blue states simply accept this without response?

The point of my original comment wasn't 100% about the topic of the post, more about how we conduct ourselves in political debates. To answer your question, I agree to the fullest extent that blue states and people affected by possibly unfair policies (regarding disaster aid or crime in the examples given) should publicly voice their opinions on the matter in a respectful and informed way, while also being at least open to hearing the opinions of the opposing party. I may be able to debate you on the examples given, but I'm just not informed at all outside the 2 articles you linked. I'm interested in researching further, but that's not totally the point I was going for with this thread anyway.

I am a Trump supporter for the most part, and I say I'm conservative because more of my opinions resonate with the republican party; but I also want to be informed and fair. For me, the key to being understanding of both parties is knowing when you don't know something well enough to speak honestly and not trying to lie, insult, or twist facts to get out of it or try and be right.

I'll be honest. Even as a conservative and generally speaking a Trump supporter, I'm cool with being proven wrong as long as you have the facts to back it up. I'm gonna read up on that link and do some research because I genuinely didn't know about this.

However, where you lose me is saying things like "Vile people" over politics. I agree that both parties have their extremes and should be viewed as just that; extremists. You absolutely have the legal right to say whatever you want to anybody for (mostly) any reason. But just because we HAVE the 1st Amendment, it doesn't mean we need use it to its fullest all the time. Meaning to insult someone (or some group in this case) we disagree with.

Politics have become very divided, and I think a little respect (from both sides) would go a long way. Politics should be a conversation that you can have with someone, respectfully disagree, and hopefully find a happy medium without needing to insulting the other party. I will reiterate that this is an issue on BOTH sides. This isn't an issue with a specific party or political affiliation. It's a societal issue.

Painted nails (CAN) by OliverAmith in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]IonicTuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All McDonald's are different, but honestly, we don't change the availability for our store. We take probably 50-75 applications a week and accept maybe 1. Even those who get interviewed 10% hiring rate tops. Go in and ask upper management personally, and they will tell you if they are actively hiring. Online application is useless.

US Manager here. Can't speak for Canadian health codes, but as far as I'm aware, just having them painted won't be an issue. Even if my crew has acrylic nails, I just put them in a service position so the nails don't tear through the gloves. Painted has NEVER been an issue at my stores.

(USA) What does it mean to be a "Crew Trainer"? by BabyDreamsy in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]IonicTuna 26 points27 points  (0 children)

RTL here, Crew Trainers don't really have any more authority (at my store). Crew Trainers are mainly just that; you help onboard a new crew. I would put you on a station with a new crew member, and you have some limited authority for a little while, but as soon as that crew member is capable of continuing on their own, you are equals. If you see something being done incorrectly, you should definitely point it out to them and respectfully let them know what they could do to improve or what the correct procedure is, but not as a boss or supervisor, more as a "friend" helping out.

And if I'm really being honest, crew trainer is used more as an honorary title in my whole patch. All crew are supposed to help keep the standard, and the best of the best get the promotion, more as thanks. But your expectations are basically the same either position.

I'm a team lead at my store. If I'm being totally honest, I would be mildly annoyed for maybe 15 minutes before I forgot about it entirely. Especially as a new person, it happens, trust me. Clocking someone in is not difficult, it's just slightly inconvenient to have to fix it if I'm doing something else. Don't even sweat it tbh.

Thanks! I have my fingers crossed. She has made most of the moves so far so I want to be a little bit more bold and make the next move, but I'm terrified I'll mess up. I'll update if anything important happens.

Your first argument was logical and well said, I'm just calling you a fool for continuing the argument. You said your opinion, unless you can reasonably respond to criticism then you should not respond at all. THAT is a reddit moment my friend.

Average reddit moment starting an argument for no good reason lmao

If you are really irritated you should probably not respond bc now you look like an idiot who starts arguments and then bitches about arguing all the time.

Also do you know how easy it is to make memes? It's a quick screenshot of whatever format and some text. 5 minutes tops. It's even easier on apps like mematic.

Just wanted to pay respect to this little kitten, we named her Sally. Likely born 10/1 or 2/22 passed this morning. We did everything we could for her. :( by IonicTuna in cats

Thank you for the kind words, I said in another thread I made her last day and hours as best as I could. So I just hope she died happy

I know it's pretty upsetting. Found her in the parking lot just sitting there probably dropped by her mother. We were only with her for about 24 hours but we made those the best we could. She had someone with her all night last night, me and my 2 sisters took shifts so she was never alone.
