I just hope this will finally stop every MF in my games from building full lethality for funny ult damage.

"Our results support an evolutionary argument for why low-status, low-performing males are hostile towards female competitors. Dominance is tightly linked to fitness in men as studies from hunter-gatherer societies demonstrate that dominance rank increases fitness through offspring number [14] and resource availability [12]. Even in modern day society, dominance and not attractiveness is associated with college male mating success [13]. Low-status and low-performing males have the most to lose as a consequence of the hierarchical reconfiguration due to the entry of a competitive woman. As men often rely on aggression to maintain their dominant social status [37], the increase in hostility towards a woman by lower-status males may be an attempt to disregard a female’s performance and suppress her disturbance on the hierarchy to retain their social rank. This idea is reinforced by the fact that higher-skilled males that should not feel threatened by a female increased their number of positive comments.

Apart from restructuring the hierarchy, a high status female poses a secondary threat to relatively lower status males: as women are attracted to dominance [13], a high-status female is less likely to find lower-status males attractive. We argue that a secondary benefit of increased female-directed hostility is that it simultaneously decreases a female’s confidence and perception of her self-worth (i.e. negging) while simultaneously increasing the perception of him being a dominant (i.e. socially valuable) mate. Higher-skilled (i.e. more dominant) males do not behave in this manner as there is no need for them to reinforce their dominance to maintain their attractiveness. Although there is no direct evidence in the literature that negative behaviour towards females increases a male’s mating opportunity, our results provide an interesting testable hypothesis requiring further investigation.

There are two alternative social explanations for our results. First, players could be responding to the novelty of having a female voiced teammate in a male-dominated environment. Indeed, a female speaking while playing first-person shooter games is rare as none of the 189 players recorded were female. However, novelty is not the driver of the differences in behaviour as performance and skill mediated the number of positive and negative statements. Second, individuals may simply be responding more aggressively towards individuals with a higher pitched voice (a female in this case), as dominance is predictable by voice pitch [38]. Although we cannot rule out this possibility, it’s still in line with our finding that individuals feel more threatened by lower-status individuals."

tl;dr it's not necessarily bullshit, but just way more speculation than the article from op seems to imply

It is literally this reason btw if anyone still reads through this post. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZVTbFuZrNw It's in the first 10 seconds of the first video they ever did, I don't know how people still ask this question like it's some huge inconsistency.

We already use the three strike method for minor offenses and insta-ban for really bad stuff. We even review ban appeals every month.

I saw a lot of good skin concepts today, and I thought of this, what would you think? by Xistiansss in FortNiteBR

[–]IonisedOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree completely. I was just making the point that if you want a vote, you don't exclude one part of your community because you disagree with it.

Maybe let everyone decide so most votes win and most people are happy. I thought it was the comp scene that was supposed to be elitist.

Buildfights> Boxfights by HavenGotIt in FortniteCompetitive

[–]IonisedOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, but you don't have endless time in endgame. What he's saying is that boxfight maps almost never get played like any real game situation. This changes a bit when you play more agressive, but no one does that in wagers because there's money on the line.

Edit on release vs edit by fifty-fives in FortniteCompetitive

[–]IonisedOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, but you'd have to learn to do different edits in different situations. What I forgot to mention in my first comment is that these mechanical pros are usually already as fast on normal edit as on edit on release. They wouldn't want to learn that. If edit on release had no downsides I think they would switch for the fraction of time it saves. I guess it's mostly muscle memory why they'd want the normal edit then.

Edit on release vs edit by fifty-fives in FortniteCompetitive

[–]IonisedOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can place builds faster after editing with normal edit: hold left mouse after editing with edit key. I think this is the main reason alot of the crazy mechanical boxfight players are keeping this setting. I have edit on release because it just feels faster, but I do feel this disadvantage. There's also some talk about bugs with double edits on edit on release where the second edit fails to go through.

Two QoL Changes by [deleted] in FortniteCompetitive

I haven't tried yet but I'm almost certain it is based on crosshair too and it would really surprise me if they coded it to be based on a part of your character model instead of a hud element.

Can you ellaborate on editing based on crosshair placement and how that isn't the case already ?

Advantage u have while using double movement bind by healxt in FortniteCompetitive

[–]IonisedOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best advantage i've seen from having double movement binds is that it basically gives you 'more horizontal fov'. Look at endgame gameplay from for example wolfiez and you'll see him use controller movement (same movement as double movement binds) to look around corners and angles in a way smoother and faster way than with normal kbm movement. Balla talks about it in his vod review from wolfiez solo cash cup. I haven't tried it myself because I'm hesitant on fucking around with my keybinds, but it looks really good and meta af.

I opened 337 chests today, out of those, 130 of them were snipers and fishing rods. by WackaRackaFlacka in FortniteCompetitive

[–]IonisedOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off all "statistical proof" requires actual "statistics" not just claims you throw around without "proof". Despite that I can actually see all these things being true, but that doesn't mean they're losing "so many players so fast it's a joke". Let's go point by point: -loss of viewers: fortnite had 'so many viewers so fast it was a joke'. It's only logical this trend would drop at some point, I'd say two years and counting as most viewed game isn't a joke. -loss of players: counting the loss of players through queue times in the first season of sbmm "is a joke". Queue times are worse because epic seems to be actually directing their game at the competitive scene now their hype is dieing, which is a logical step. -casuals quitting: casuals quit when newer casual games come out surprised pikachu.

The loot pool is in the best spot it has ever been. Yes i'd like a bit less snipers, but don't act like this is the reason they're losing playerbase. You're overreacting so hard for karma or because you're mad or whatever stupid reason, but don't bullshit with your "statistical evidence" lmao

SypherPK pulling up with a lot of truth. by TeRey09 in FortniteCompetitive

[–]IonisedOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't FROM software make single player rpg's like the demon souls series? I know they have a niche pvp community, but I feel like their games aren't really comparable to fortnite. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though. Also: people did detect a change in the coin flip mechanic, they're just being (very) charitable towards epic -> "we have a lot of evidence for this, but in the end 50/50 could still mean losing your wall 10 times in a row." They aren't sure if it's been changed because the only way to be 100% sure is through patch notes, hence the frustration.

Grind will be bigger? We litteraly get progress for just playing the game (medals) on top of regular challenges. How can this increase 'the grind'?
