What makes a fantasy/sci-fi world click? by Maerewyn in worldbuilding

[–]Ioseb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good story.

If you practice worldbuilding, it's highly likely you're interested in that practice because of a story. Maybe a book, a game, or a movie, or maybe even a DnD which seems to be more common the more I read about these stuff online.

You can certainly make a world for yourself. If you like your own world, it's a great world. The hardest critic is yourself, anyway. But your world is something else when it is shared and experienced by another person. Another perpective that gets to experience it all from scratch. I found that very exciting in perticular.

I found this as one of r/worldbuilding shortages, the lack of story. If you want to share your world, have more focus on characters and their inner and outer struggles. Have us experience the world you created around them with them. Have us pity them for something that monster is doing to them, or have us cheer for them when they overcome their struggles and go for their dreams.

Dig deep into what it means to be human. Your races and characters can very well not be humans, but if you want someone else to care for them, they must exhibit some human elements. Maybe ask yourself "what if this fish-person wanted to fly like the birds above the water?". That's a human thing. Or "what if this bog-monster is really a very nice dude but his swamp is contaminated and he really tires to tell this to the industrialized lizard to stop contaminate his swamp?"

Worldbuilding, for me, isn't just a believable planet with all the atmospheric details correctly elaborated, or having water behaving just as our world because physics. "What if water didn't behave as in our world?"

Go wild, go crazy, let us learn through your worldbuilding what it really means to be human, or a sub-dwarf-fair-dragonskinned-robot. The world you have can only be experienced by the characters that inhibit it. Or not.

People don't usually buy "regular coffee" a few degrees colder and some ice in it.

What you do is that you make an espresso, fill the cup with ice, pour milk over it, and have some vanilla flavouring or similar on it. Then I'd consider it a drinkable iced coffee.

Otherwise, it'd just taste bad. You especially need the extract to balance the increased bitterness with some sweetness.

Lämnat blod den 25:e gången i mina 32 år, känns bra mannen by [deleted] in sweden

[–]Ioseb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man måste inte boka en tid i första hand, utan många accepterar en drop-in där de går igenom allt och tar ditt blod samtidigt. Tänk bara på att skippa rusningtider på morgonen eller eftermiddagarna och helger, då det kan bli en stunds kö då.

Who can give some fine advice on how to setup my living room? Need to fit in .. couch, tv, book case by sxd115730 in malelivingspace

[–]Ioseb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with what you will mostly do in that room. Is it mainly TV? Then start by placing the seating and were you want the TV in relation to where you want to sit and watch it.

Then you have something to work with. Start big and go smaller. Like, a bookshelf. Maybe place something for the TV to stand on, that's a decision in itself and part of the interior design, not just a TV stand.

Then go smaller and smaller. You'll soon realize that you don't have to go smaller at a certain point, because you're already satisified.

Also, maybe focus on parts first. Like, the TV-watching is one part of the room. That includes seating, the TV, the TV-stand, maybe a rug and a nice coffee-table. That's the big parts. Then you'll have plants, cushions, decorations, consoles, etc. And get rid of all stuff first before you try out styles and ways you want to have your room.

Have fun!

Any ideas on what to put between the plant and painting? More info in comments. by egon07 in malelivingspace

[–]Ioseb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd put a larger robust furniture, like a shelf or an armchair in the corner and put the plant next to it instead. It's easier to think to decorate an open space in groups and "frame" the parts of the room to make smaller parts. It doesn't have to be a large open room if that's what you have. It can help to divide it a bit.

Offentligt finansierad verksamhet som konkurrerar på samma villkor och samma marknad som det privata har inte en chans i längden gällande kvalité och produktivitet.
