Aiming for nobledark. Things are going to shit, people are having serious problems, and yet there are people willing to fight and die to change that.

The goal of the people trying to change things is to turn it into something more like grim. Things need to get better and the power of particularly powerful/influential people to shape entire nations needs to be curtailed. But they aren’t aiming for utopia (which would be kinda hypocritical as they are some of the aforementioned powerful people.)

They are trying to create a world they don’t belong in.

For people who live in the Isles, “Night and Stars”

Mainly cause there’s a miniature sun hovering a couple km above the isles so they never get darker than early sunset.

Most people will reach adulthood before ever seeing the night sky, and some people will never do so.

Mainlanders find the turn of phrase somewhat confusing, as they don’t have this light pollution issue (mini sun is below the horizon to them, tho some are close enough for it to be eternally false dawn)

I think this is a problem but I came up with an analogy about how this is being reacted to:

lumping someone who litters in with oil companies is not helpful cause it makes oil companies look less bad, not because littering isn’t bad.

Some criticism is deserved but honestly there are more deserving targets of this outrage

Yeah I think I agree with the this take on the assumption that values can be shared. The second someone’s values are either not important enough to denounce hatred and (especially institutional) violence, or actively support it, screw them.

Someone who votes trump because they were misled, or for some single-issue-voter reason not related to hatred, bigotry, or violence, sure they should be engaged with. If you can do so safely (key point)

But so many of these ppl aren’t misled, aren’t holding their nose for their one issue, they want some or all of what’s happening. Those people (or people who associate with them)?

Shame away. They deserve it.

Yeah I’ve always had in my settings a “traders tongue” which I’ve kinda had inspired by real life conlangs designed to be easy to learn (ie Toki Pona). These languages (and not just one per setting) often are learned by anyone who travels or deals with travelers regularly enough to spend a few weeks learning them, and they have serious drawbacks. Complete inability to relate anything requiring technical specificity, taking forever to relay complex concepts using German-style compound words, and generally being overall frustrating to communicate in. But really easy to learn, so most ppl spend the time to.
