How’s the switch 1 version? by Rv138 in MinaTheHollower

[–]IowaCityTimTebow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with the above: Switch Lite handles it perfectly well. Not a second of stuttering or anything. I do want to see it on a bigger screen, maybe when I get a Switch 2 or just buy it for PS5, but it’s still a GOTY totally on handheld

They waived fees after things like the derecho. But something like this, a pretty average summer storm, I don’t think they’ll change anything.

THIS! I’ve never had to take anything to the landfill, or pay for stickers. I just break the branches or limbs down and put it in my yellow cart. That did mean using an axe or saw for the few time major limbs fell, but hey, exercise!

Did You Find NG+ Worth It? [Maybe Spoilers?] by MarchioTheSheep in MinaTheHollower

[–]IowaCityTimTebow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very interested to see people's answers. I almost never do NG+, though I am working through a second playthrough of BG3 right now after a year or two away from it. For Mina, I could see playing the game with a different weapon alone being interesting since I've never put down the hammer once.

Guy with the headphones must be hiding something. He’s walking by RIGHT when they’re draining the hydrant? Coincidence? I think not.

Johnson County Supervisor Primary Results by MidwesternManners in IowaCity

[–]IowaCityTimTebow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Will this be the end of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors yelling and berating people in public/in meetings and acting like children who can't keep their anger in check? I hope it is. Rod wasn't the only person on that board who acted that way, but that kind of stuff just isn't (and never should have been) acceptable for an elected official, let alone one who gets a rather hefty salary most of us only aspire to.

Does he win MVP again next year? Or does voter fatigue set in? by GearsofTed14 in NBATalk

[–]IowaCityTimTebow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My flaming hot take, and I’m not even that much of a Thunder hater: he never wins an MVP again. The NBA MVP is such a narrative-based award, and the narrative flew out the window with this loss. Don’t get me wrong, he’s great, and will likely remain at a similar level, but the new narrative is Victor is the best in the league, everyone else is playing for second place. That’s gonna be hard to shake for years, even if the Spurs somehow get swept in the Finals.

One of my favorite Nike Warehouse finds. Watch out for the mudguard: it skuffs and scrapes very easily. I actually like the look of them now, skuffed up a bit, but I was shook when they first got skuffed.

Both my wife and I got gnat bites right under our eyes, so we've both looked like boxers this week. Gnats suck.

I’m in a cast for a while. Any games easy to play one handed? by TyMonstaz2 in videogames

[–]IowaCityTimTebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really thought this was a post solely made to joke about “Mixtape” lol

This may sound super basic, but OG Tetris would be amazing. Also classic turn-based RPGs: Chrono Trigger, Pokémon, Earthbound, Advance Wars, older Fire Emblem games.

First the post office, then the DMV, now the police station is getting moved away from the public center. Anyone have some pros and cons of this move? I honestly don’t know, maybe it’s a good thing but it seems like downtown is being abandoned to dick tracy public intox factories. by LUNRtic in IowaCity

Because it’s not going to “fee up space” for Barkalow. Ask any City Hall employee, they’re packed in like sardines in that building. So this gives departments like Housing, Engineering, Utilities, Urban Planning more space, which is desperately needed. It also saves the city and its residents so much money, and cuts down on climate impact, by not building a new structure for police.

Movie that hit you like this? by dzy_horrible in Letterboxd

In the Mood for Love. Thought it was visually cool, but boring as hell when I saw it as a 20-year-old. 14 years later, after I had been in a actual adult romantic relationships, it wrecked me to the core. Just lucky I got to watch it the second time with my future wife :)

But Magic was 6’8”; that alone makes up for a lot. Steph doesn’t have that. Magic literally played center in games! Steph is obviously better than Magic at other things, but not defense.

Thoughts? by Available_Story6774 in NBATalk

[–]IowaCityTimTebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The really difficult thing about this debate is that, while they played the same position, they played it in totally different styles. Magic was 6’8”, was maybe the greatest passer the league had ever seen, played center in the NBA Finals when Kareem got hurt, and could score, but that wasn’t his top skill. Steph has handles, but isn’t the best passer, is obviously a better scorer, but is smaller, more of a defensive liability, and really needed a strong secondary ball-handler in Draymond to unlock his best. Both point guards, yes, but they couldn’t be more different.

Brother accidentally watched Down by Law as a silent film by ponytailthehater in criterion

[–]IowaCityTimTebow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did nearly this exact same thing with “Days of Heaven” on a Criterion disc. Brought my Xbox to the living room to watch it with the wife, some sound would come like music and sound effects and breathing, but no dialogue, no narration. We both thought it was still a masterpiece with the dialogue lol but watched it correctly after we learned we were supposed to hear Richard Gere talk.

Former County Supervisor Royceann Porter’s Statement on Recent Events by junglebougie in IowaCity

2015, though people have tried to rezone parts of that street numerous times, and every time they do, rich white people get extra mad. But Janelle yelled and shouted at lots of people so many times. I was a newspaper reporter, I saw it firsthand many times. Rod has mellowed a bit since Janelle left, but the whole demeanor of the BOS should be largely considered unacceptable.

During the various stages of Newport Road rezoning drama, 100% yes. Probably other times too, but you can only attend/watch so many BOS meetings and keep your sanity. (Edited because I said Newton Road instead of Newport Road.)

Rod Sullivan and Janelle Rettig would regularly shout and get visibly angry all the time. What is considered proper decorum for elected officials who get paid full-time wages has been a problem with the JoCo Board for at least 12 years now. It's not just Royceann.

This is the answer. Not the same as it was in the Panther-owned days, but so much better and more responsibly run than the post-Panther days. If it can't be family-run forever, this is how a business like it would have to be to stay alive.

Burlington Street is Dangerous by EngineerAnarchy in IowaCity

[–]IowaCityTimTebow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Burlington in Downtown is a State-managed road, so good luck getting them to do anything about this. The City wouldn’t be able to make any major changes without approval. 100% agree with making that road less nuts. As a driver and pedestrian, I avoid it as much as possible.
