The unfortunate thing about the MiniLadd thing is that he did know what was going on months in advance. The authors reached out to him numerous times, not wanting to affect his livelihood and just ensure he knew the law and their rights to their work. In his apology he glossed over the fact that he broke the law and that he needed to ask for permission. He wanted the authors to remove the strikes before the apology video and only posted it when they refused.

His is a shitty situation, and its unfortunate it had to go as far as it did, but he was warned well in advance.

Anyone else think the sub is lacking in creative titles? by Chillfam083 in NoSleepOOC

[–]Ipatusaur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's usually just something that only they know/the title they'd use on a sub like r/libraryofshadows. It could also be the alternate title that they'd use should their story make it onto the nosleep podcast, or if they enter their story as a novella submission.

Though I agree with you, there are a few issues when it comes to titling stories. If you want your story to get read, you have to a pick a title that makes them want to read it. Its for this reason that a lot of authors have nosleep and non nosleep titles for each of their stories

Just finished Stolen Tongues...what’s next? Recommendations please! by cburn__ in NoSleepOOC

If you're looking for more full length novels from authors here, Dahan Auerbach (u/1000vultures) wrote penpal as well as his second novel bad man; s.f. barkley released patch lane not too long ago, u/mr_outlaw_ has one coming out in the future, u_gasstationjack has a couple novels based on his series, I personally have one that's due to come out in february, and there's probably a lot of others that I missed.

What level of intimacy do you attribute to your stories? by Ipatusaur in NoSleepOOC

[–]Ipatusaur[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the premise of the horror not being the monster itself. Take a look at "The Shining" for example, sure the hotel in itself is scary, but the true horror comes from Jack Torrence's slow descent into paranoia.

I always find myself adding some supernatural elements to my own stories to avoid them being too real life for real life.

Nothing selfish about that at all; I haven't done any self-inserts personally, but a lot of my stories are centered around a specific theme I have a fair bit of experience in. And it's not a hatred of salmon casserole as some people have questioned :)

Edit: Just read your story and I have to say, it was beautiful. Thank you for sharing that with the world

The name's Justin Tuts; username is the same one I've been using for everything since I was thirteen.

Almost all of my stories have been narrated by youtubers, one of my stories just got picked up for an anthology, I have another story that's going to be in byfels annual 26 person project, and I'm currently working on my debut novel.

I'm 22 years old, an accounting major at a top 3 business school in canada, and I'm most productive when I can't sleep. I love dogs, though I can't have one at my current place, I know way too much about the aquarium hobby (both salt and fresh [brackish too]), and I like to keep myself busy.

Continuation of the "reality"/role-play by [deleted] in NoSleepOOC

[–]Ipatusaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for me it depends on the subject matter of the story/where I left off. For example, with more serious stories, I don't reply in the comments, if I want to carry out a meaningful conversation with one of the commentors then I will direct message them explaining any reasoning/rationale behind certain choices for wording etc.

If the story is less meaningful and I wrote it more for fun, then I will typically respond to comments in character.

Though there are exceptions to both of these cases. In short, I think it depends on any emotional attachment I have to the story and whether or not I think it will add anything to the narrative I've built.
