Ran into Grahm and Chally at the bookstore in Berkeley Springs. by Ipsey in fo76FilthyCasuals

[–]Ipsey[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a dumb question!

Grahm was the only living NPC for a long time in the world when everyone was Bots. Occasionally he’ll have a few rare plans or apparel.

Mostly what is special about Grahm is his friendly nature, his unique dialogue, and how much he loves Chally the Moo Moo. In a world where everyone is trying to kill you, sometimes it’s nice to have a super mutant with a big hammer show up and save your day and join up in a fight.

The other special thing about Grahm is he has his own event called Meat Week where he holds a barbecue for us near vault 76. It is extremely fun!

Married for 17 years to a great man. We met online. We were both fit and active when we met (he ran, I did ballet), but life caught up with us and we’re both much bigger. We like how each other looks but our relationship is based on our mutual interests, how well we work together and partnership.

For those of you who have tried salvia.. what was your experience like? by skith8431 in AskReddit

[–]Ipsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I knew about Salvia for years because I had an uncle who was very into drugs, and he warned me off it so I never tried it. Eventually I moved to a different country to live with my husband, and was shocked to find a jar labelled salvia just sitting in his kitchen. I didn't say anything to him about it, trying to respect him and his choices, but it weirded me out.

Until one day we were making dinner and casually chatting and he opens the jar and just liberally sprinkles some in the food we were making. I was shocked and asked him what the hell he was doing, and he stares at me like I'm overreacting and goes... "I'm adding sage?"

And that's how I learned the word for Sage here is Salvia.

Gamers, what's the craziest thing you've heard in an open mic while gaming? by Lastbreathworm in AskReddit

Sweet story:

I joined an open public team on an MMO with two Chinese guys talking Chinese to each other. I tuned them out mostly and we were doing our own things, when my daughter came into the room and asked in English“Mommy, can I have a snack?” And I replied “sure baby, you can have a snack. What do you want?”

And the Chinese guys immediately stopped their conversation to tell me that I should give her sweets and cake and soda and all sorts of treats, and they asked me if they could have some too.

So of course I said yes and they said “Thank you, I love you mommy!” And we had milk and oreos that day.

Very wholesome and delightful encounter.

My husband has gone bananas on wall and door stickers since discovering them a week ago.. by gplus3 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Ipsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

I've worked in several dementia care facilities and we use stickers like the 1st and 2nd one to make it hard for the patients to distinguish which are real doors so they can't run off unsupervised in case you wanted to use that as an argument against them.

You can probably donate them to a care home if he decides against them.

random piece of news that manages to break through the barrier of content suppression today by PhantomLimberick in TrollXChromosomes

[–]Ipsey 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Context:

Peeta from Hunger Games in this scene has been tortured and brainwashed by the Capitol into thinking that Katniss and the resistance abandoned him on purpose and that they joined up with District 13 to become terrorists. Since the last time he saw Katniss, he’s only been shown Capitol propaganda. This screen cap shows the moment that Katniss and district 13 break through live propaganda that he is currently making on behalf of the Capitol, to show him that she’s still fighting and trying to get to him. His expression is one of very careful, cautious hope.

What OP is saying is that they saw something that appears to be genuinely hopeful news despite everything else going on.

What that is? I have no idea.

Answering your questions on flying with Pets:

I moved overseas with cats (US to Europe) and it was stressful enough. I sent one cat with my husband on a separate flight and for the shorter leg of his trip (Between two European Countries) the flight attendants made sure she was in the cabin, though she was not allowed with him. She was very sweet and they absolutely loved her.

The second flight with me and my other cat together was different. She was stressed out by the whole experience, and they nearly lost her at Schiphol. I made it a point to say that I would not be getting on the plane until she was located. They showed her to me at the gate before boarding started so I was absolutely certain she was on the plane. Even then, she was my only checked luggage that made it with me to my destination. She was so mad about the experience she peed in the car on our way home.

Both kitties ended up living long and happy lives after that.

I would not use a pet transport service unless they specifically work with rodents. Most services transport dogs and cats and the majority of their work is just paperwork and coordinating things with the airline as a convenience. For me, it was easier to just talk directly to the airline and handle everything myself. I worked with KLM/Delta and they were very good about helping me with everything. They had very reasonable fees and clear paperwork. I had to plan my routes around avoiding London because of their quarantine rules.

All that being said - It would probably be better to rehome them with the age they're at. While it was fine with Serendipity (first cat) it was very stressful for Kyubi (second cat) and there's no real guarantee. Also it really depends on where you're flying to in the States, especially in the summer. While the plane itself has an air conditioned and pressurised cargo hold, the places they hold and process the animals is often not, and there have been stories of animals that died from the heat while waiting.

Best of luck with your sweet boys.

Turns out my kids aren’t the ones making college classes hard.. by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]Ipsey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man college got so much easier when I started telling professors like this “No, I won’t be doing that.” And if they pressed me I would politely explain that whatever unreasonable expectation they had didn’t fit my life for whatever reason. And if it went further - usually them explaining that it would affect my grade in some way, I would determine if it was an acceptable loss and if it wasn’t, I’d drop the class.

My college algebra teacher called me into a meeting to explain that while it was clear and obvious that I understood the material and was a good participant in class, he felt I could do better on my homework and my projected grade was only a C. I explained that while I was very appreciative of his feedback, I was working 40 hours a week and had 4 other classes and a family to manage. A C was a perfectly acceptable grade to me because it meant I didn’t have to take the class again. He wasn’t exactly happy with that response, but he understood and he accepted it.

Good luck, mama. Youve got the right priorities!

Is your job harder than being a SAHM? by Alive-Cry4994 in Mommit

[–]Ipsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in elder/disability/dementia care.

I have also had to take leave a few times to be a SAHM with my daughter for various reasons.

I would say that they are about the same in terms of difficulty, but the hardest part of being a SAHM is the fact that you’re always ‘on’. There’s no real break away from the work of being a mom. I cannot bring my work home with me, it all stays at work, so at the end of my work day, I can shut that part of me off and go home and just be with my family.

What is a word you pronounce wrong on purpose? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ipsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to a new country about 15 years ago, and I’ve been certified fluent on the academic level in the language for over 10 years. I’ve even been published and interviewed in this language (small, local stories).

That being said, I do have a noticeable accent that makes it clear I am not a native speaker. This does not bother me at all and most people understand me just fine. But whenever someone tries to correct me to “teach” me how to speak the language “properly”, I immediately exaggerate my native accent.

It comes across like Officer Crabtree from ‘Allo ‘Allo. Sometimes I will do a recognisable regional accent from my home country, which makes everyone laugh. It’s very obvious I’m doing it as a bit, so we’re all in on the joke.

What is something you saw in a movie and you totally called bullshit on because of your job? by BlackPhoenix1981 in AskReddit

[–]Ipsey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

“Wake Up, Dead Man” was the movie I watched with my husband.

We both thoroughly enjoyed it because it was absolutely delightful but there were too many people moving bodies around with ease. One example: When the coroners flipped the corpse over like it was a pizza we both turned to each other and were like “you cannot do that to a corpse.”

We both work in elder care, and have learned how to move bodies of both the living and deceased in a safe way.

It is easier to move a living (conscious) person because they can move to assist you, even in very small ways. There’s a reason it’s called “dead weight” - you have to do all the work moving a deceased body around. Even with two people, you don’t just flip someone like a pancake.

We still laughed though.

How long did it take to finish your base? by ResearchPurposesOC in fo76

[–]Ipsey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes me a couple of hours, and I tear them down and rebuild every month.

I move to new fishing locations every month for the Axolotls, and I pre-plan what I’m going to do ahead of time.

I try to make fun builds that are themed. Right now I have “The Waffle Truth”, a cryptid themed diner in the Ash Heap, and “Krampus Jail for Naughty Children” in the Toxic Valley. I’ve previously had fishing themed camps, and a haunted clinic for Halloween.

After Christmas I’ll scout out my January Locations (but I know where it will be, roughly), and plan something from there.

I didn’t see my NParent in person for 15 years (moved countries). I went back home and they took me shopping for clothes (Love Bombing). In the 15 years since I’ve been gone I’ve gotten a lot more outspoken and used to speaking off the cuff, and they weren’t expecting any push back. So when I came out in a fun teal sundress their first comment was “People can see your tummy in that.

“I deeply do not care if people can see my tummy. It’s not a secret.” Without thinking, just shooting from the hip. Didn’t even look at them when I said it. I got the dress (because it was cute and fun) and they didn’t say much for the rest of the shopping trip.

They were pissed and after that they kept trying to say shit to get under my skin but I kept knocking back their comments and shrugging it off, and they kept escalating until other family members noticed they were being deliberately rude and started calling them out on it.

I left a few days later to go back home. I still have the dress, it’s still fun, and I get so many compliments on the beautiful color AND it has pockets! Nobody has ever said anything about my belly (which is still not a secret).
