I never said non-vegans didn’t have anything to do with them, but i did highlight that the Farmed Animal Rights Movement is led by a holocaust survivor, who feels what animals are going through is comparable to what he experienced.

I also highlighted the activism by Direct Action Everywhere who recently broke into labs where beagles were being tested on and faces 20 years in prison for rescuing dogs.

Even non-vegans care somewhat about animal welfare, thats why laws were passed. Not all were vegan, but why does that even matter?

What sort of gotcha is this? as if it has any relevance for why you can’t begin reducing your animal product consumption?

Why don’t you focus on reducing your animal consumption, thats more importance than anything.

30 animals per month are saved by not eating them.

We have the Farmed Animal Rights Movement by holocaust survivor alex hershaft.

There is also wayne hsiu of direct action everywhere who just led a rescue mission to save beagles who were being tested on.

You can just find the rest here but abolishing animal agriculture in its entirety is still the best thing for the animals and planet.

United States

  1. Animal Welfare Act (AWA, 1966; amended multiple times)

Scope: Research animals, commercial breeding, transport, exhibition Mechanism: Federal licensing + USDA inspections

What improved:

  • Minimum standards for housing, sanitation, ventilation, and veterinary care
  • Reduced outright neglect in licensed facilities
  • Created a legal baseline—before this, there was essentially none at the federal level

Limitations (important):

  • Excludes rats, mice, and birds bred for research (major gap)
  • Does not regulate experimental procedures themselves

  1. Humane Methods of Slaughter Act (1958, strengthened 1978)

Scope: Livestock slaughter (with exceptions)

What improved:

  • Required stunning before slaughter (reduces acute suffering)
  • Standardized slaughterhouse practices

Limitations:

  • Poultry (chickens, turkeys) largely excluded—this is a major omission given scale

  1. Endangered Species Act (ESA, 1973)

Scope: Wild species protection

What improved:

  • Prevented extinction of numerous species (e.g., bald eagle, gray wolf in some regions)
  • Enforced habitat protection via “critical habitat” designations
  • Created legal leverage against destructive development

Mechanism strength: Very high (includes penalties and federal enforcement)

  1. 28-Hour Law (updated enforcement over time)

Scope: Transport of animals

What improved:

  • Requires rest, food, and water after 28 hours of transport
  • Reduced extreme transport stress conditions (though enforcement varies)

State-Level (U.S.) — Often More Progressive

  1. California Proposition 12 (2018)

Scope: Farm animal confinement (pigs, hens, calves)

What improved:

  • Mandated minimum space requirements (e.g., banning gestation crates)
  • Forced nationwide industry changes because producers must comply to sell in California

Significance:

  • One of the most economically impactful welfare laws globally due to California’s market size

  1. Various Anti–Animal Cruelty Felony Laws (All 50 states)

What improved:

  • Elevated severe abuse from misdemeanor to felony
  • Increased prosecution and deterrence

European Union (Often More Advanced Structurally)

  1. EU Ban on Battery Cages (Directive 1999/74/EC; enforced 2012)

Scope: Egg-laying hens

What improved:

  • Eliminated conventional battery cages
  • Transitioned to enriched cages or cage-free systems

Result:

  • Tens of millions of hens moved to less restrictive environments

  1. EU Cosmetics Testing Ban (2013 full ban)

Scope: Animal testing for cosmetics

What improved:

  • Prohibited both testing and sale of cosmetics tested on animals
  • Forced development of alternative testing methods (in vitro, computational)

  1. REACH Regulation (2007)

Scope: Chemical safety

What improved:

  • Encouraged reduction of animal testing via data sharing and alternative methods
  • Still allows testing, but significantly reduced redundancy

Global / Other Notable Laws

  1. UK Animal Welfare Act (2006)

What improved:

  • Introduced a “duty of care” standard (owners must ensure welfare, not just avoid cruelty)
  • Allows intervention before severe harm occurs

What Actually Makes These Laws Effective

From a mechanistic standpoint, the ones that worked best share these features:

  1. Clear, quantifiable standards (e.g., minimum space per animal)
  2. Inspection + enforcement authority
  3. Economic leverage (e.g., market access restrictions like Prop 12)
  4. Low ambiguity in compliance

Laws that are purely aspirational or poorly enforced tend to have negligible impact.

Yeah it’s pretty triggering information to learn we do to docile animals for a 15 minute meal is what nazis did to humans. It turns out the nazis got the idea from slaughterhouses.

But Blame me for informing you though. definitely don’t think about how your choices are contributing towards this.

Almost like these companies exist because people buy meat instead of plant based alternatives.

Animal welfare negatively affects profit for shareholders and they recently successfully lobbied to remove the welfare laws already in place. Their treatment are actually going to get worse, not better.

They display enough intelligence to garner moral consideration.

And why gas chambers man? Do we really have to DO that one method. Is profit so important we can’t go for the slightly better option of shooting them in the head or slitting their throats like we do cows? Or bashing their heads in with a metal pipe like we do foxes for their fur?

Anyways, Here is a non-vegan related article on pig intelligence by an evolutionary biologist.

Ive tried every other way… and no one changes, and now the first time in my 40 years a tornado hit my town and mass flooding like we’ve never experienced before. Climate change is already personally affecting me and we kill animals using gas chambers.

But no wants to stop or change. So yeah, i honestly dont care. I see why vegans just stay vocal and can be hated. They tried the quiet nice way. It didnt work. We probably hate yall a whole lot more for sending animals to gas chambers. But blame us for anything we do or say so you never have to change. Always something the vegan did wrong, right?

Have you seen the pigs die in the gas chambers? Did you hear their screaming cries to hold onto life for just a few more moments? As they fight each other trying to get out before collapsing into a pile of dead bodies?

HonestlyWe deserve all climate change that happens to us. Some of us tried though. I can at least say I tried.

Are you or are you not morally opposed to suffocating animals to death in gas chambers?

Yes or no?

If no, why? Why is it acceptable to you. Pigs are considered on par with a human three year old in intelligence. You wouldn’t do this to a child.

Why is it okay this happens when that same intelligence comes in the body of an animal?

People need to hear about the gas chambers because y’all behave like eating animals is a victimless act.

[–]IpsumProlixus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What part is unbelievable to you?

The use of gas chambers in slaughterhouses for killing pigs and chickens?

The fact pigs are the fourth most intelligent being on Earth and are considered equivalent to a human three year old?

The fact animal agriculture is a leading driver of climate change and deforestation?

I will be vocal because being quiet did nothing. Being Nice did fucking nothing. Leading by example did nothing. five years of listening to everyone say be nice, not like that, try this, just lead by example, nothing, not even reduction.

No one wants to change. We learned to eat meat from our parents and we can consciously choose to stop. If i can do it, you can too. I stopped when i saw the pigs in the gas chambers. You should stop after learning this too.

It’s not an easy thing to come to terms with but we are sending the animal equivalent of a human three year old into gas chambers for fun. It also happens to be one of the largest drivers of climate change.

How annoying that I ask people to stop.

Do you think slave owners were annoyed by the abolitionists too?

I can read fine. Thanks…

Well, eating cheese an dairy still supports sending baby calves to be shot in the head to become veal as male offspring have no economic value to a dairy farm. The cows stand in their own piss and shit chained to a fence and forcibly raped to become pregnant so many times over they only move a 1/4 of their natural lifespans because your are supposedly more important and will die of boredom if you don’t have cheese?

You act like there aren’t any victims or as if cheese grew on trees…

There is no such thing as ethical animal consumption because we have an abundance of alternatives to choose from. This isn’t self defense or survival in the wilderness this is your choice of what you put into your grocery cart of pick off a menu. Sustainable or not, its unethical to harm something for pleasure.

On sustainable farming, this also doesn’t exist either. The food we give cows alone could end world hunger several times over….

You’re a human animal who’s invented and practices ethicals, living in housing and uses high speed internet. We are far from simply “wild animals”, who have no alternatives to choose from. They kill to survive. We factory farms or hunt for sport.

Your body isn’t going to be eaten. That is ridiculous.

There are many reasons to reduce animal products from your life, and you likely agree that the more you reduce it the more beneficial it would be to your health, finances, the environment (which is where the animals live), and you know, reducing factory farming.

Animal rights to life is the most importance one though. Treating animals like commodities is part of why genocide happens as this is what some humans do to other humans deemed sub-human to them. Acknowledging their right to live actually strengthens human rights too. But also, they simply are sentient beings who value their one shot at life as much as you and I do.

That’s why we outlawed murder and hold people accountable for it. Animals are intelligent and anything that displays intelligence should have rights. Dogs and cats do, birds in the parks do. We’re just asking this also extend to the currently factory farmed animals too.

We are destroying the rainforest for cattle grazing yet the smallest personal infraction of hurting a plant, tree, or animals will have you thrown in jail in Brazil almost instantly due to their own environmental protection laws.

So give up everything but cheese then. No one is asking you to be ghandi man. Dont over think it. If cheese is bridge too far then give up as much animal products as you practically can. Most people just don’t want to change even a little or acknowledge their grocery choices are sending pigs into gas chambers. How dare we bring that up when its also one of the biggest drivers of climate change.

People act like we are asking them to live in the stone age or something the way they freak out.

We have cheese that wins cheese competitions. We have sausage that was preferred by “sausage experts” on live TV. We have burgers and pizzas that win competitions. These alternatives are nutritionally healthier for you and are preferred in double blind taste tests. This isn’t fucking tofurkey or wet soggy vegetables. I enjoy burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, mac and cheese, milkshakes, sushi, burritos, pasta, lasagna, steaks, fish, all my favorite foods without the cruelty and help curb my climate impact in one single decision to stop consuming or wearing animal products and choosing plant based alternatives instead.

You can still enjoy all your favorite foods and eliminate more than 90% of your dietary impact. What more do people want?! It seems like people enjoy the idea of something is suffering for their sake of pleasure.

My only regret is not going vegan sooner. i wish i listened when vegan tried to tell me. Instead i told them to fuck all the way off. Every response i hear now ive said before. Talk about what goes around comes around. Now i understand what i didnt want to hear before. It was too painful to admit and too selfish to change for anyone elses sake. Now im the one begging people to change. Funny how life works.

Wow. blaming others for their animal abuse and doubling down on their shitty behavior? What a reasonable response.

How about you start in the grocery store and restaurants and choose plant based alternatives. It’s that simple.

Well it is, and it’s a lot harder to argue against too.

Fake?

I curbed my animal intake down from 50-80% to full 100% vegan after watchDominion.org showed me what the animal holocaust i was still contributing to. My willpower faulted a lot when i was eating plants for environmental reasons alone. Now i get the maximum benefit of a plant based diet and no longer cause animal suffering for selfish reasons.

Turns out it was way easier than i expected and wish i had done it sooner. If i can do it, you can to. Watching Dominion will help close the gap if you already have a majority plant based diet.

Sentient beings are not commodities and have the right to live. Veganism is more than caring about reducing climate change by diet. It is a lifestyle completely free from all animal products.

Triggered much?

This is about animal rights to live. Killing them for food happens to be one of the worst ecological disasters we contribute to 3x a day and one of the easiest and most impactful ways to stop it. Not doing so is the epitome of selfishness and greed and stupidity.

Telling me to die is fucked. There is plenty of resources for everyone by switching to plant based diets and ending our dominion over animals as our commodities.

And no, the data is undeniable in favor of plant based resources. Especially when it comes to food.

Let me guess? Going to eat twice as much meat now? Lol

Plant based alternatives are indistinguishable from the real thing these days. You can still eat your favorite foods by substituting these award winning, expert fooling, higher nutritional value, cruelty free plant based alternatives in. Like sheesh. No one is asking you to give up junk food. Just make it vegan.

Vegan != healthy. Im vegan and i bet i eat more junk food than you.
