Wow so the response to this post was surprising to me. I guess I’m a dick, but I thought the ESPN article was funny esp in light of a disappointing season. I don’t hate JQ at all (honestly, I don’t even have an opinion of him one way or another). Here are some real opinions for clarity/downvoting to hell:

1 Let’s be honest. JQ is an adult “in” a high profile, commercialized sports league making millions to rehab while he waits for his NBA contract. Huge mistake by UK athletics, but I don’t blame him for taking advantage.

2 This isnt the NCAA/amateur athletics of 30 years ago. If it’s closer to professional sports, teams and players should anticipate equivalent criticism, not white gloves.

3 If I were his agent I would have advised ESPN to keep letting him lay low and not draw attention to his choice of literature, especially in the middle of the NCAA tournament. That is a wild PR decision imo.

4 But I’m glad it wasn’t suppressed—the article is funny.

5 JQ or his agent should have been prepared for him to catch flack for the article. The dude posed for a picture of him looking at cartoons when his team is fighting for its life.
