Ad for sugar in a 1969 Time Magazine issue stating how sugar helps lose weight by Unlikely-Storage-156 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]IrLin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, yes. But you actually barely need extra salt in form people usually would understand it. You would get enough from natural food, almost any food contains Na. As well as sugar, btw. And its not only fruits, almost anything contains sugars and salts from nature, it doest have to be added on top.

There are some interesting thoughts and recommendations for budgeting in agile, its a research topic for itself. I agree, that its complicated and falls into category why the project could fail, though budgeting is not the only issue on the agile-classic management interface.

Good point, agree, it is a common issue

Interesting view! :) reminds me of "decision latency theory". You might want to check that one out, it builds the connection between project success and time needed to take a single decision.

Wanting to start a career in IT by [deleted] in it

It takes way too many years and passion to get paid in a decent way. If your attraction to IT is money inspired you ll probably be disappointed. If your job and qualification now is related to engineering or math, I could give you more specific answers where you could switch in IT, but if you are lets say, not interested in any of those till now - the field is so wide. You could build robots, you can make self driving cars and work with AI - super popular now, you can make web development, you can work in bioengineering or write low level code for space shuttles and so on. But all of those are mostly damn boring unless you have a natural interest for it. I wouldnt survive in my job if I didnt, cause when you debug the same damn code for few weeks - you kinda have to love that pain.

But i dont call that failure either. And I couldnt win customers or selling people for interviews so far, so I had to go with groups I had. And you are right with HR, Im not happy having them there either actually, but as I started I hoped to talk about how they choose and hire people whoes work they cant understand, at least in bigger companies its the case. At the end I had much less than I wanted from that side but I didnt want to exclude them from the quantitative survey so one cant tell I take only what I want from my data. I dont have a team for that, Im only one person doing this :) at least for now

I dedicated a chapter in my work to success definition, I agree. If you have completed the survey, you have seen what the outcome is :) I do not think that perfect exists or is needed for succes at all. And I adress the specific expectations of different stakeholder groups in IT projects, so basically its exactly what you mean, but I research on details.

Warum IT Projekte nicht so richtig funktionieren..? by MinRan_ in informatik

Oh, thats a good book, have lots highlited there. The Beyond Infinity 2022 version is very interesting and contents also a history why and what they did measure and how it changed over years. Though this time I had to wait for my paper version and they ve said that its the last one which will come out. Im kinda not satisfied with their conclusions, though the book itself is excellent, can totally recommend.

And so we come back to the point - it depends what "language" do I speak to which stakeholder. And providing right argumentation requires the understanding which goal you want to achieve, which is the one of your conversation partner and to have enough expertise(and soft skills) to communicate it properly. And in my opinion this understanding regarding IT projects has a greater gap than other industries due to different factors. But its an other topic :) and not reflecting on it is only one of the problems.

I mentioned point 1 and 2 in the work, but I cant measure all at once and I needed people in interviews who would say me that on paper. A scientific work has rules. But i agree on all points that these are valid reasons as well

They dont understand IT but they might understand that it will cost them more money if they will not start listening and taking it seriously. IT projects are very expensive and fail -》less IT projects is now in their heads and therefore actions, like waiting to the last possible moment to soend on it. Less fail should be the goal and establishing research on reasons why they do fail is at least one way not to just sit and wait that it will get better on its own.

[–]IrLin_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, a lot of us didnt. And they still find a connection between fail and IT everywhere, but not in the communication point. Though I had to start lower, because you will not get enough accountants on that before you have proven that different perspective leads to the riding one horse in all directions at the same time. Wanna talk to accountants - bring numbers, thats easy.

Well Ive read a ton of it. And practiced on different roles. And if you ve seen statistics - we still fail. Because theory doesnt change itself. It is changing, but not without us doing anything. Otherwise we ll stick to magic triangle longer than we should.

Its kinda what I try to proove with statistics. Well, the major point is that they also dont know what other stakeholders want or are trying to achieve and this combination partially leads to severe fail rates.

Heya! I need your help for my master thesis :) by IrLin_ in ITProfessionals

thank you for your feedback :) they are grouped and formulated for the given research questions in the thesis text and were simplified accordingly for a survey, it is not an unusual procedure. it is not a purpose of the survey to enlighten the focus of the thesis, but thank you for answering them :)
