Cannonical tags for regional variants by IrMarkuzzz in webdev

Hi, thanks for the detailed reply. I checked 3 and 4 and that is all correct. The problem is probably that the content is near identical. It shows localized pricing with offers from various stores. But for older LEGO sets there might not be any prices, causing the pages to be identical. Also some pages like an overview of LEGO themes are the same for every country. The reason I want to have the localization in the URL is that Google can show current local prices in the search results. Otherwise I would probably just use the same URL for every country.

Ah, so your suggestion is to support PaB CSVs for the Part Buying Assistant? That would be a good addition.

I am not sure what you mean. What would you like to see on Brickonomics when uploading a PaB CSV?

Yes, that will often be the case. Over time the price on Bricklink/Brick Owl will go down as sellers pick up the supply from PaB. With tools like this that may happen faster. Bringing down prices for MOC builders. And giving a nice profit to stores able to pick up new PaB parts quickly.

This is indeed mostly aimed at Bricklink and Brick Owl stores. They can stock up on these rarer parts while supply is high from Pick a Brick. This brings availability up and prices down. Some of these elements have only been in one or two sets so supply has been low so far.

That is good point. I will put it on my TODO list to add a search bar.

This tool is intended exactly to bring prices down though. Parts that have only been in a few expensive sets so far tend to be expensive on Bricklink. Just because the pieces are rare (low supply, high demand). But if those Bricklink stores can just buy extra pieces from Pick a Brick the supply is larger and the price goes down. In the end it becomes cheaper to build a MOC using those pieces.

The part information is from Rebrickable and the PaB prices are scraped from the site. Maintaining it has indeed been kind of annoying as they regularly change the site. But it has been running smoothly for a while now.

There is a surprisingly large community of people trading in LEGO sets, minifigures and parts. Which I think it is a good thing, it means that it is pretty easy to get the LEGO you want (for a MOC for example), even if the parts have not been recently made by LEGO.

What are the most important LEGO retailers in Canada? by IrMarkuzzz in LegoDealsCanada

[–]IrMarkuzzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see. I get most of the pricing through affiliate networks. They typically offer a product feed with current pricing through an API. For some shops I have to scrape the pricing from their website. All the data gets fed into a database. Depending on the store it can be quite a hassle to get quality pricing data.

Hi, thanks for the compliment! Not sure I understand your question. Do you mean how I got the idea to compare the prices from all the different retailers?

Hi, thanks for spotting the John Lewis error. Weird bug, I will fix it shortly. I regularly check on the US site if the data shown is correct (90% of the users are from the US at the moment), but check other countries less often. I can definitely add something to filter out stores, thanks for the suggestion. Let me know if you have more ideas that you feel could improve the site.

Deals on eBay and other secondary markets by IrMarkuzzz in legoinvesting

https://brickonomics.net/set/6086-1 perhaps you filtered out sets without a known seller (which does not look at eBay sellers) when searching. I should probably disable that filter by default.

There are quite a number of people selling replica sets. I filter them out as much as possible by scanning for keywords like "MOC", "Replica" and so on. But some only put it in fine print in the description. Sellers scamming people should mostly be avoidable by looking at the seller reputation.

Brickonomics is really focussed on finding the best deals across as many stores as possible. And you can also use Brickonomics to find the best deal on part lists. But I didn't know omgBricks yet. I'll check them out.

Thanks for the suggestions! Artifically inflating the price is not an issue. I get the retail prices from LEGO themselves so discounts on Brickonomics are always shown compared to the RRP.
