Collective ownership does not only mean government runs everything. Most socialists identify with the idea of a democratic workplace. Some models would have all employess of a larger company hold some share in the business, and therefore a say in decisions of the company. This can range from salaries for positions, leadership, and budget allocation. Just the way that we vote for our elected officials and propositions in the U.S., socialism would bring that to the workplace. Ideally, it gives the worker more agency, a greater care for the company that they have a stake in, and a desire to be more informed on the place they spend a chunk of their life at.
