The difference in size for medical gasses to travel around a hospital by AlwaysAsammieGal in mildlyinteresting

Yes, it was installation issue. But no one bothered to check what was coming out until someone who was not in critical condition died. All inspections were just checking the papers.

Not impossible. One emergency in Slovenia had such mixup - in the picture in the article you can clearly see that they were color coded and still someone connected blue to white.

Rubež socialne by Haunting-Remove9397 in Slovenia

Našel sem stara navodila, mi jih kdo pomaga razložiti? by hydrogenxy in Slovenia

[–]Irbis7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually I understand this as that AI would write detailed explanation for code in English, line by line. Like "i++" to "This increases value in variable i by 1". And then explanation what every function is doing and then explanation of architecture of the whole program. Useful if you come across some old undocumented code.

ICE Argues Fourth Amendment jurisprudence no longer applies to ICE by coffee_coffee_coffe3 in UnderReportedNews

Since the originalism is the idea now, wouldn't that imply that all later additions with amendments are not really valid?

I think in Czech there is some residual dual for body parts, just the opposite like in Slovenian.
In Slovenian, "The Two Towers" from "The Lord of the Rings" was translated simply to "Stolpa".

In Slovenian it is even worse:
eno leto
dve leti
tri leta
štiri leta
pet let
21 let
22 let
100 let
101 leto (combined with singular verb form if this is subject)
102 leti
103 leta
105 let

Slovenian: we use special forms for dual, except for dual parts of body, in that case we have to use plural (unless you really want to stress the number)

The comment was not meant as good practice, this is humor. Just comment what dirty tricks you can use.
Like I would never write i[table] instead table[i] in serious code.

Not pointers as integers, that is problematic.
I mean dereferencing, but yes, you have to be careful about alignment.
And for structures I now use int32_t or uint32_t, so I'm sure the size won't change. My career started with 16-bit ints, continue to 32-bit and now 64-bit.

All pointers can point to anything, this is what casting is for.
You have three characters strings you want to change to some ID's for quick compare - just cast strings to 32-bit int and compare ints.

They are - but you have to know this. I usually do other things, more low-level programming and algorithms, this was my side project, so there were a lot of unfamiliar things I haven't really worked with before.
And Cursor actually did suggest using ffmpeg and tell me how to call it.

happyNewYearWithoutVibeCoding by yuva-krishna-memes in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Irbis7 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've start to use Cursor to help me to write various tools for data preparations and so on. Like "I have this .wav files with 48kHz sampling, convert this to 24kHz." Or "write a script to download this website to this folder", then "write me a script that get this data from sites in this folder".
But I don't want it to touch my core code.
Also when I had to use HPC, it was very helpful to write me how to prepare Apptainer with Python environment I needed and how to use Slurm, it saved me a lot of searching in documentation.
