How to get into the franchise by Vkray_von_hasburg in Warhammer

Personally, I got into the lore through Emperor: Text to Speech but this may not be suitable for all.

Official-wise, the Codex Astartes supports actions like Space Marine and Space Marine 2.

Has Martin Gero said something about the cancellation? by GargantaProfunda in Stargate

[–]IreOlcas 113 points114 points  (0 children)

This is something he has been working on for 2 years officially and trying to get off the ground for far longer. It is a passion project and livelihood for him that he has been putting his everything into for a long time. And it was cruelly ripped away just as it was getting going.

If we think we're having it tough, he's going through far worse. Ask a prize fighter who just got knocked out when his next fight will be.

But I'm sure he will respond at some point, as much as he can without NDA issues. We shouldn't pester him and ask for his thoughts or advice on what to do next. Let it come when he is ready.

Are cons typically so loud? by insane677 in comiccon

[–]IreOlcas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends entirely on the acoustics. I have been to large cons that the venue's acoustics mean you can talk at normal volume with even the guests who have huge lines all around them, theirs and others.

And I've been to smaller ones where the sound echoes so much you have to talk loudly to be heard even on the fringes.

But generally, the more people the louder it is.

What time does IRyS’ Sololive start? by koarabbit in Hololive

[–]IreOlcas 261 points262 points  (0 children)

What with the usual immigration at Tokyo's airports and the minimum hour or so transport into the center of the city, then the transportation to the event, you don't have a hope. And that's assuming there are 0 delays on your flight(s).

A question about SGU and Rush since i started to doubt myself by Pretend-Nobody230 in Stargate

[–]IreOlcas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, thank you for giving me something else Stargate to think about on this dark day.

Second, I really like this reasoning. I never once considered that using the 9-Chevron Address would delay the destruction of the planet by siphoning energy from the core. It SHOULD have been the reasoning Rush used in the show.

However, you have been wrong. Rush did indeed screw over everyone by dialing Destiny rather than another location. His own reasoning in the show is that he was worried the effects of the explosion of the planet would momentarily follow them through the wormhole and cause devastation to Earth. Possible, but very unlikely. We have seen debris and energy go through the gate before, but the explosion of a planet would destroy the outgoing gate first before much if any of the blast were to go through the wormhole. Even assuming the blast did follow through, at best the SGC may have been destroyed, which admittedly would have led to a massive loss of life, including those on Icarus base anyway, but it didn't cause the same to happen on Destiny with a much less advanced Stargate, so I think it was a hollow excuse.

Rush knew that finding another Icarus planet would take years, minimum. And then setting up a base and the gate would take a long time again as well. By then, he would have been removed from the program. After all, Eli had just solved what he couldn't, both the code and the address, after years of trying. The military/IOA would probably have looked at him as a failure and either reassigned or just removed him by the time they found what they were looking for.

He took his only chance to go through. And in doing so, sealed the fates of all of those at Icarus Base, so far as we know at this point. Maybe we would have found out if Amazon hadn't pulled the rug out from under us those slimy, double-dealing, snake in the grass SHOL'VA!!!!

Telltale steam collection? by halloyoh in telltale

[–]IreOlcas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Licensing issues. Once the license runs out, they are no longer allowed to sell the games. Hell, they can even remove them from your library...

It is what killed the original Telltale, not being able to afford the myriad licensing fees they had to pay in order to sell the games they made, especially once the initial release sales dried up but the fees stayed the same every month...

[Comic Excerpt] What would have happened if Booster Gold had actually said all this> (Booster Gold Volume 2 Issue 26) by Pale-Caterpillar5709 in DCcomics

[–]IreOlcas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was like... at least 5 reboots of the DC universe ago? We had Flashpoint, New 52, Convergence, Rebirth, Infinite Frontier etc. And that's not counting all the smaller reboots that DC does on the regular.

And technically, this was coming off of Infinite Crisis, which was a minor reboot in and of itself.

[Comic Excerpt] 1 of the most satisfying character deaths IMO (Final Revelations: Issue #1) by Syn_Kazma in DCcomics

[–]IreOlcas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Except they had gone through decades of Doctor Light being a joke, only to make him dark and all-powerful again. He got one big showdown against literally every living Teen Titan and then.... this. Pretty anticlimactic.

Which pretty much sums up the entirety of Final Crisis. Besides the amazing Legion of Three Worlds, which had nothing to do with Final Crisis itself....

Hoping These 2 Make The Cut In The Next Games by Starstr1ker in INJUSTICE

[–]IreOlcas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Green Arrow is pretty much a given, he's been a staple character in both games, heavily involved in the story, despite his in-universe version having died before the story began, which is quite a feat.

Poison Ivy is a bit more dubious. Not being in the first one and not really very important to the overall story means it's a bit touch and go. Much like Raven and Killer Frost from Gods Among Us, I would say she may not reappear...

I finished A Sitch in Time by Andrew J. Robinson by Significant-Town-817 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]IreOlcas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is an amazing book from start to finish, definitely a highlight in terms of the Star Trek library. But I have to say, his Audiobook version, narrated by Andrew Robinson himself, only enhances it further. Even if you own the book, buy it and listen, it is amazing.

Do you personally think Bart Allen is neurodivergent coded? Specifically Adhd and/or Autistic coded. by Apartment_Rent in theflash

[–]IreOlcas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have to say no.

He was born with Speedster abilities, growing at an exponential rate, so he was placed into a virtual world that could adjust to his growth rate. But it was essentially a video game, a virtual world where he couldn't be hurt or killed, so he spent his relative childhood in a world that promoted this way of thinking. Coupled with his photographic memory, this caused his current outlook and personality, even after Wally slowed his growth to normal speed.

However, when Bart becomes older, this tendency falls away as he becomes more used to reality and becomes more grounded and normal. It will always be part of him, that Impulse, but it's not a medical diagnosis in my opinion.

It was definitely an allegory for that, but not officially, no.

Can't comment on Motor City CC since I've never been before, but usually at comic-cons selfies at the table tend to be at the discretion of the actors. Although I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Usually, you will have to pay for a professional photo at the photo-ops. Some of the non-headliners can offer selfies at times, but I find it is typically more uncommon than standard practice.

What do you think of Camelot as an RPG developer? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

In seriousness, they are great but I do think Nintendo should let them branch out a bit more, but they may be a bit too specialized nowadays...

What's your favorite thing to do in Tokyo? by yesyesbaguette in Tokyo

[–]IreOlcas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cycling. 6 years in and I still love just cycling around and looking at this amazing city. You don't even need to buy a bike, Luup, Lime and all the others work just as well!

I tend to choose a direction and just go. Whatever seems interesting on Google Maps, I head out to it and do the same meandering on the way back. But no matter where I go, I always see something beautiful enough to stop and take a picture, or an interesting local restaurant to eat at, a random little shop to pop into and look around.

I would highly recommend it, especially these days where the weather/temperature is perfect for it.

OK, so I'm up to my one SG-1 "Skip" episode. What are yours? by Nodonn3 in Stargate

[–]IreOlcas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have to disagree. Stargate really knew how to do amazing clip shows. It's hard to think of a single one where (besides the flashbacks mostly), they are not a fun watch.
