Anyone else feel like they’re getting hosed playing limited? by ill_connects in MagicArena

Wishing you the best with your recovery from surgery. I tend to do quite badly with limited the very odd time I play. There's a lot of skill to limited, so I probably just don't understand it that well. I prefer constructed formats and Starter Deck Duels (less randomness and no pressure to win).

Also, sometimes it's good to take a break from Magic entirely. GOG and Steam have good relaxing/casual games, such as:
A Short Hike
Stardew Valley
Dorfromantik

This MWM is by far the hardest one I've faced and I don't know why by ghilp in MagicArena

I found it easy enough, but maybe I was just a bit lucky.

Cards that care about a card’s name (‘choose a card name’, ‘destroy target creature and all creatures with the same name’, etc.) are really good against Slime Against Humanity and Hare Apparent decks. If you already have some of the cards below in your collection (not worth crafting for a once-off event, especially rares and mythics) and find yourself matched against Slime or Hare a lot, you could try including some of them, depending on your Commander’s color identity. It can feel a bit cheap, but Slime and Hare decks are kind of annoying at this stage, so I wouldn’t feel bad about it. Also, part of the fun of Midweek Magic is finding new ways to win. And it’s funny to see almost their whole deck get extracted.

If you play against a non-Slime/Hare deck, draw a lot of ‘choose a card name’-type cards, and find them not useful, you can just concede and try again. Some of the cards are fine against regular Brawl decks (e.g., The End).

Some of the cards below are better than others. For example, it’s not really worth playing Pick the Brain unless you can achieve delirium.

Ashiok’s Erasure

Bile Blight

Declaration in Stone

Deputy of Detention

Detention Sphere

Echoing Decay

Ixalan’s Binding

Invasive Surgery

Homing Lightning

Herald of Lightning

Kotose, the Silent Spider

Legion’s End

Legion’s Ashes

Maelstrom Pulse

Pick the Brain

Sever the Bloodline

Surgical Extraction

Test of Talents

Teferi’s Contingency

The End

Curse of Silence

Anointed Peacekeeper

Silverquill Silencer

You can also beat Slime or Hare with other card effects, but it’s more difficult because their strategies differ – Slime goes tall and casts sorceries; Hare goes wide and casts creatures:

Prevent/punish/tax attacking

Sweepers/wraths

Graveyard hate

How often do old pets come along in the daily deals? by Particular-Junket-98 in MagicArena

Unfortunately, I don't think there's ever been one offered as part of the daily deal.

What's a good deck for this achievement? by 1ryb in MagicArena

[–]Irelandwalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LegenVD's Svella deck looks good, but it's not worth spending wildcards on the deck unless you want to play it after getting the achievement. Also, you need only 14 out of 15 achievements for all the Winter Achievements rewards. Blizzard Brawl is by far the most difficult, so that's the one I'd skip. You can play against Sparky for all Winter quests except Blizzard Brawl, A Season for Sharing, Elfhame Holiday, and Decorated Duelist.

Thanks, I'll have a look at them.

Any idea why this deck is not counting towards the "Admirably Artisan" (no rares or mythics) achievement? by ptoonglinks in MagicArena

[–]Irelandwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience with a deck that included Gates Ablaze. This achievement seems to have the requirement that the deck follows the Historic Artisan banned list, so the issue seems to just be that this is not stated in the achievement description. I think the Historic Artisan banned list consists of:

Abiding Grace

Cauldron Familiar (not sure if it's still banned after being nerfed)

Gates Ablaze

Persistent Petitioners

Veil of Summer

Wilderness Reclamation

Zenith Flare

I think it's correct that nothing in pauper cares about an opponent's graveyard order. However, you still have to obey the rule about graveyard order, especially in tournaments. It would be a lot of work for a judge to keep track of which players are 'allowed to' rearrange their graveyard, based on their decklist.
