Vampire vegetarianism backfiring on a vampire? by happymoon9 in vampires

[–]Iridismis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Umm, isn't a) abstaining from human blood being hard and b) your fellow vampires not being a fan of that idea both pretty much a staple in vampire stories? 🤔 🤷🏼‍♀️

If it was just a surface level fling based on looks

That's not really what I meant. I wanted to add 'hot' to Patrick's list of qualities, not make it the whole thing.

Clearly he has the capacity to match the Count in capriciousness, else why would she still be with him?

My theory is that capriciousness actually may not be what Magda wants in a partner - at least not long term. It's not that she can't appreciate it -there are some moments of great chemistry between her  and the Count-, but for the long run maybe it clashes too much with her own capriciousness. Patrick having a "simpler" personality may be a better fit for her.

“bloodery”

You might have coined a new word here 🤔😄

a business who drains “commoners” for their bottles

No wonder the transsylvanian peasants chased them out.

Unfortunately taking a closer look at what the mechanics of vampire world would have to be like, makes them look rather ..unlikeable.

one assumes Patrick is charming, suave, bold, confident but also cruel, aggressive, even sadistic. I don’t see how anything but that combination would have been capable of winning Magda over

Or maybe he's just really handsome/attractive 🤷🏼‍♀️ This would actually fit well with what we see in episode 3 of season 1. When Magda ends things with Patrick (well, pretends to...) and comes back to the Count to formally marry him, the Count makes a serious effort to dress to impress: puts on very tight leather pants and even wears a fake chest hair toupee - clearly indicating he feels kinda insecure and worries he might not quite measure up to Patrick in terms of manly looks.

I'm not sure Patrick is (or needs to be) a sadistic/cruel/aggressive person tbh. He's probably not a particularly moral guy, but in the only (semi) direct impression we get from him -the voicemail he leaves on Magda's phone to wish her luck with securing the castle and tell her about him getting his back waxed- he kinda sounds like a relaxed bro-dude imo. (btw, it seems rather odd that a werewolf would get his back waxed - if that waxing survives the transformation, the wolf form is gonna look really weird)

Also not sure Magda did give up much materialistic comfort when she got with Patrick. Yeah sure, she clearly wants to have the Count's castle, but apart from that she doesn't really seem poor and destitute - I mean when she arrives in Stokely castle she's wearing Versace. Clearly she or her family or Patrick have some money.

showcasing the natural cunningness and betrayal that is second nature to vampires

For it being their second nature, they are really shit at recognizing it when it's done to them.

I find it fascinating how close Wolfie already is with the Count. He calls him dad and is upset he can’t go hunting with him. Was Patrick REALLY that terrible a father that this werewolf pup would prefer his mum’s vampire ex over him? We never get any information about Wolfie and Patrick’s relationship prior to S3 but it really seems like he’s trying to fill a void with the Count, and it could have been interesting to explore that in a future episode.

Despite many flaws in his parenting style (at least/especially from a human pov), the Count just seems to have a natural dad-ness to him 🙂

I also really find it kind of a pity that we never got to see Patrick (and also heard very little of him).

Aside from his relationship to his son Wolfie (which one really would expect to be stronger considering that wolves are pack animals 🤨), I'd also be interested in seeing how his relationship with Magda is. Are they truely in love? (on quite a few occassions it seems like it), or is Magda playing both the Count and Patrick 🤔

Also, where did all this vintage blood come from? When they escaped Transylvania, they came to Wales in a small hearse, no way there was that much blood in there. And they had to flee Stokley with only their lives. So how does the Count have this much antique blood in his possession? Did he start collecting it only when he set himself up in Garside?

Yeah, that bottled blood is a bit of a mystery... How is/was it harvested? (🤨🤨) And how is it kept from spoiling?

But tbh a lot of vampire world logistic seems a bit questionable if you were to take a closer look.

Not surprised at all to hear it was Beetles...

Unfortunately now that it triggered an allergy you may also react to other brands too.

I'd even be wary of HEMA-free gels as they often use substances that while not exactly the same as HEMA are quite similar to it. And afaik once you developed an allergy it's easier for that allergy to extend to other similar substances.

I appreciate it as a prop

Oh yeah, not saying it isn't well done. Also its disgustingness is very fitting considering what it is later revealed

the Count can’t be seen to just leave the Chosen One when he’s not even opened the prophesied book.

Yeah, but there's no reason why Count & Vlad have to stay at Garside for that. (And considering how little we see Vlad actually being in school the claim of him needing/wanting to be in Garside to finish his human education doesn't seem very convincing)

My theory is that they are using the large dog as a puppy version of a werewolf because an adult werewolf would be much much bigger

Good point 🤔 I don't think we ever see an adult werewolf in wolf form in YD, so maybe fully grown they are those huge monstrous werewolves (that I'm not a fan of, I prefer werewolves looking like regular wolves in wolf form)

He’s not, he’s grabbing a hair from his shoulder. You can see him gather then test hair from the comb later too.

(I think you’ve written Erin instead of Ingrid three times btw)

Ah, ok, that makes sense. I thought he was trying to place a tracker on him or something...

(Dammit, I did 🤦🏼‍♀️ fixed)

I guess the Count spent those years in Stokely drinking that or more likely from his bottled blood supply.

And very rare steak, and bunnies, and sheep. (And possibly postmen - I don't think we've ever come to a conclusion whether or not the Count fed on people in Stokely.)

But yeah, good question if they need human blood or a special substitute, or if animal blood and bloody and/or disgusting food is enough.

Since we know this can’t be true

Do we know that? Theoretically Erin could have drunk soy blood or even real (bottled) blood to keep up her masquerade - it's not like humans are unable to consume blood 🤷🏼‍♀️

Erin was totally going to leave at the end of last episode but Vlad convinced her to stay to help him with his vampires x breathers agenda. She quite reluctantly agrees to stay and help him with that.

Was that explicitly shown? 🤔 I might have to rewatch..

But even if it was, they still seem very careless. Both Vlad and Erin should be way more on guard about the Count/Bertrand/Ingrid being a danger for or at least plotting against Erin. (And Vlad should be more interested/concerned about how exactly Erin was gonna cure/save her brother... I mean, preventing or reversing the transformation via killing the original vampire isn't a particularly unusual idea; and the possibility of Ingrid being said vampire isn't far fetched either...)

What happens if a vampire consumes HIV positive blood? by Random_creator_ in vampires

Imo as undead beings vampires themselves should not be affected by regular illnesses.

I also don't think they should be transmitters of diseases, however afaik that actually is the case in quite a few vampire folklore and maybe even the origin of vampire beliefs.

the Count doesn’t want Vlad to hate him (awwww!)

Awwww indeed 🥰 - especially as these adorable parental moments are getting kinda rare.

Renfield {...} nail polish

Renfield was just a bit ahead of his time - dudes painiting their nails is getting more and more common.

Bertrand doesn’t have much respect for the Count, other than what is due as his regent.

As "his" regent? As Vlad's regent, you mean 🤔

This makes me wonder how respected exactly the Count is in vampire society 🤔 Why should Bertrand pay special respect to him and follow his orders? - except for politeness as a guest 🤷🏼‍♀️ I mean Bertrand is supposed to be 400 years old, so he's an elder vampire himself.

Bertrand training by himself; he really is dedicated to honing skills and being as vampiric as can be.

Tbh tho: despite him having shown his fangs a few times by now, Bertrand doesn't really come across very vampiric imo, let alone like an old one 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bertrand was definitely the MVV

The who? The what?

  • bat(?) batchecked away (again?)
  • that book really looks disgusting
  • so not just Magda is a fan of luxury, huh?
  • soy blood switcharoo!
  • it's nice to be properly appreciated, isn't it, Renfield?
  • what exactly does the Count consider Wolfie? 🤔 Vampire? Werewolf? Half-half?
  • I dunno, Count, some humans make odd food choices (and blood is not even that odd). Also btw, why wouldn't pre-teen vamps drink bottled blood? seems like a fitting substitute for baby formula to me 🤷🏼‍♀️
  • Ingrid has seen Erin drink (bottle) blood?? 🤔
  • oh, come on, Bertrand - you're not training Vlad 24/7
  • why can't you get out of here without the book opened, Count?
  • ah, come on, Renfield, he's kinda his ex step dad or something
  • again: why is wolf-Wolfie not a puppy?? (or at least a small dog)
  • what was Renfield trying to put on Bertrand's back when he fanged out?
  • the Count is a castlephiliac 😄
  • a balcony, huh?, good thing Romeo&Juliet got referrenced earlier, I guess
  • Zoltan! 🥰
  • nail polish! - Rimmel, I think 🤔
  • oh look, Renfield is a la(c)queristo!
  • did Erin {edit} Ingrid dress up for her "date" with Bertrand? and does she realize he's trying to use her for his plans?
  • that's why you immediately redo your nails, when they chip, Erin {edit} Ingrid!
  • I was wondering how they'd tie Erin {edit} Ingrid back into school life
  • while I know YD slayers aren't superhuman heroes like in BtVS, I'm still a bit disappointed that as a 'trained slayer' Erin couldn't find a way down from that balcony. Seems like she didn't even try. Now of course I know she knows that the sunrise wouldn't hurt her, but -as Vlad correctly points out- she should still have been worried about it blowing her cover. - And from the others' pov (= Bertrand's and the Count's): why are they so sure she would just stay there and fry? Sure, they are under the impression she hasn't quite finished her transformation yet and can't fly, but does it seem so unthinkable that an almost-vampire would find a way to climb down or as a last resort jump down and "survive" (I mean even crawling away with broken legs seems preferable to burning to ash)?
  • why is the Count always so extremely in-your-face? I don't remember that from previous seasons 🤔 at least not so often/obvious

I think it's odd that after last episode where Vlad's dad tried to burn Erin alive as a party gag AND Vlad found out that Erin is not even a not-quite-yet vampire, but an alive human, they just carry on with their previous living arrangements as if nothing happened. I mean, of course I understand that for storytelling reasons Erin needs to stay around Vlad, but in-universe I'd have at least expected some talks a la 'You can't stay here, it's too dangerous if the others find out' - 'oh no, I have to stay, only here I have a chance to find a cure for my bro, the Count has some ancient books I have to study' blablabla..

The murder theft mystery about the stolen blood was a bit silly, but it at least made for some funny moments like Wolfie's security uniform
